Native Nuclear is a new Native-led, Native-serving 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering indigenous communities through energy education, workforce development, and environmental stewardship. We believe in the power of tribal sovereignty and equitable access to sustainable energy, working to bridge the gap between Native peoples and the nuclear industry. Through STEM-focused initiatives and strategic partnerships, we create pathways for Native representation in energy careers while fostering a deeper understanding of nuclear power’s role in a sustainable future.
Missed our last workshop? No need to worry! Join us online tomorrow, October 25, from 10am-12pm PST to learn about the DOE's Collaboration-Based Siting project and discover why we engage with tribal communities across the nation to share this initiative ⚛️
Can't make it then? Our FINAL community webinar will be held on Tuesday, October 28th, from 4pm-6pm PST! We can't wait to see you there ⚡️

Join us this week for a national online workshop on the future of America’s nuclear waste and the new plan with Collaboration-Based Siting.
Native Nuclear, North Carolina State University, and Mothers for Nuclear are hosting a two-hour virtual session open to the U.S. public.
Over the past two years, our teams have led listening sessions and community dialogues across the country. Now we’re concluding this phase of the effort with a series of online workshops to share updates on the status of U.S. used nuclear fuel, hear firsthand perspectives from Native Nuclear and Mothers for Nuclear, learn from NC State researchers about radiation risk in context, and provide public feedback to share with the U.S. Department of Energy.
Workshop Dates

If you missed our in-person events, this is your chance to join the conversation. Please share with friends, family, and colleagues who care about the future of clean energy and responsible stewardship.
Our new 80-second video is now live. Thank you to Self Brand Studio for capturing our perspecitives and highlighting the many people involved in this effort. The full four-minute version will premiere during this weekend’s workshops. A special thanks to the community around San Onofre for joining us and volunteering their public feedback.
Grateful for everyone contributing to this effort, especially Scott R. Lathrop, Heather Hoff, Robert Hayes and Lisa Marshall for their leadership and dedication in guiding our consortium.
Working with this team has taught me that progress in energy and the environment is achieved through building trust, spending time together, and truly hearing one another are the only ways we can make the best decisions for the next seven generations. To go fast, we must first go slow, building new relationships and using knowledge to overcome fear.
Registration and polling participation are required to contribute public feedback to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)
REMINDER to sign up for our Used Nuclear Fuel Webinar happening THIS WEDNESDAY! We'll discuss the storage of used nuclear fuel and outline how it involves community engagement and tribal futures.
Grab your dinner and meet us online to chat with community leaders, tribal professionals, and nuclear scientists about the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Collaboration-Based Siting initiative ⚛️

Last week, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Disa Technologies, Inc. the first-ever Service Provider License (SPL) authorizing the remediation of abandoned uranium mine waste across the western United States.
This landmark decision marks a new era in environmental cleanup — one that enables faster, safer, and more cost-effective remediation of legacy uranium sites, while recycling valuable uranium for America’s nuclear fuel supply chain.
We’re deeply grateful to NRC Chairman David Wright and Commissioners Bradley Crowell and Matthew Marzano for their leadership, and to Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ) for their bipartisan commitment to innovation, energy security and environmental remediation
Special thanks to Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren, EdD, MBA and the Navajo Nation Environmental Protection Agency for their partnership and vision — proving that federal, tribal and private collaboration can turn long-standing challenges into shared progress.
We’re also thankful for the strong engagement of stakeholders who supported this effort, including ClearPath Action, Good Energy Collective,Third Way, Nuclear Innovation Alliance, The Breakthrough Institute, Native Nuclear, Generation Atomic, and many others across the environmental, energy, and community sectors.
As noted by World Nuclear News, this is a “landmark for U.S. uranium remediation” — and just the beginning.

⚛️ New video drop!
Native Nuclear is proud to share our new video detailing the Collaboration-Based Siting process for used nuclear fuel—a community-led approach to finding long-term storage solutions through partnership, transparency, and community dialogue. This video highlights how collaborative siting differs from past approaches and why it matters for Native and local communities alike.
We’re continuing the conversation through three webinars with our partners at North Carolina State University and Mothers for Nuclear on October 22nd, 25th, and 28th.
Together, we’re shaping a more inclusive future for nuclear energy and environmental stewardship.

Jessika Hernandez had some amazing moments at the AISES National Conference last week representing Native Nuclear ⚛️ Find her takeaways below:
I had an incredible experience last week at the 2025 AISES National Conference in Minneapolis!
The convention center was full of energy and the power of Indigenous innovation, culture, and community coming together to shape the future of STEM. I made so many new connections with professionals and students from around the country, and I learned so much from the various organizations at the College & Career Fair and the networking mixer. I also shared the mission of Native Nuclear and had several talks about nuclear energy (y’all know how I love to educate and encourage questions 😆).
Every session and every connection reminds me why representation and inclusion in STEM matters so deeply. Whether it’s inspiring the next generation of Native leaders, exploring cutting-edge research, or celebrating traditions that ground us... AISES is where culture meets innovation. 🏆
I left the conference more energized than ever, proud of the brilliance within our communities, and excited to keep building pathways for Indigenous excellence in STEM, as well as the future nuclear energy workforce!
