About us
In 1958, our founder, Momofuku Ando created the world’s first instant noodles. On a trip to the U.S. in 1966, Mr. Ando noticed Americans curiously eating forkfuls of noodles out of cups, instead of using bowls and chopsticks. With that simple observation, the worldwide Cup Noodles® phenomenon was born. Shortly after, in 1970, Nissin officially put down its roots in the U.S. In 1972, our Gardena, CA, plant started production of Top Ramen®—the first instant ramen manufactured and sold in the U.S. And ever since, Nissin Foods USA has been creating jobs, launching careers and sharing the joy of noodles with the world.

Last night, our President & CEO, Brian Huff, had the honor of representing Nissin Foods USA as a panelist at JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles’ Cultural Awareness Series, “Tastes of Japan: The Rise of Japanese Food Brands in America,” generously sponsored by MUFG. The evening was a celebration of Japanese food culture and its growing influence in America. As part of the discussion, Brian shared the remarkable story of our founder, Momofuku Ando, who introduced the world to instant noodles in 1958, and reflected on the global success of Cup Noodles. He also spoke about how Nissin has become a household name in the United States, our ongoing commitment to innovation and community, and the exciting future ahead for Nissin Foods. We were proud to join distinguished leaders, including Deputy Consul General Naoko Kamitani, Mr. Hiroshi Kawano (Chair of the Board, MUFG Bank), Mr. Akira Kajita (Chief Executive Director, JETRO - Japan External Trade Organization of Los Angeles), Ms. Atsuko Kanai (Executive Vice President, Mutual Trading Co., Inc..), and Mr. Taka Ozawa(President, Otafuku Foods), with the conversation led by Ms.Yuko Kaifu, President of JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles. It was an amazing evening that not only highlighted the rise of Japanese food brands in America but also reinforced Nissin Foods’ role as a pioneer, innovator, and leader!
