About us
The Open Compute Project Foundation (OCP) was initiated in 2011 with a mission to apply the benefits of open source and open collaboration to hardware and rapidly increase the pace of innovation in, near and around the data center’s networking equipment, general purpose and GPU servers, storage devices and appliances, and scalable rack designs. OCP’s collaboration model is being applied beyond the data center, helping to advance the telecom industry & EDGE infrastructure.

Open Compute Project Foundation and ASHRAE Form New Alliance! OCP and ASHRAE, an international society of heating, refrigerating and air-conditioning professionals, announce a new alliance focused on data center liquid cooling technology standards and best practices. The alliance was propelled by individuals that span both organizations because of the shared scope of data center cooling environments and sustainability, where at ASHRAE, this is particularly its Technical Committee 9.9 (TC 9.9), "Mission Critical Facilities, Data Centers, Technology Spaces and Electronic Equipment." An Open Letter to the Industry: A Call for Collaboration on AI Data Center Infrastructure Standards Driven by the AI revolution, the data center construction boom is now a major economic force, contributing $355 to $727 billion in annual GDP between 2017-2023 and matching consumer spending's contribution to GDP growth over the first half of 2025. These investments are injecting hundreds of billions of dollars directly into the economy for construction, specialized labor, and the procurement of hardware like GPUs, advanced networking, and liquid cooling systems. This scale of investment necessitates not just an increase in capacity, but a fundamental, strategic evolution in data center design. To enable rapid data center deployments, a fundamental rethinking of how physical infrastructure is built is required. A primary goal for hyperscalers is to enable late-binding decisions, such as deploying GPUs or other accelerators within a given facility. However, this is difficult when data center partners receive competing design inputs from various hyperscalers, enterprise users, and technology providers. This lack of standardization leads to inefficiencies, slows down deployment, and ultimately hinders innovation. To keep pace with the exponential growth in demand, we need to move towards common infrastructure standards within the data center industry that encompass an interoperable model for data center infrastructure. To meet the challenges and opportunities of this new era, we, the undersigned, believe it is time for a new level of collaboration across the data center industry. This effort is not about creating a single, one-size-fits-all solution, but rather about identifying key areas where we can agree on common interfaces and specifications while still allowing for differentiation and innovation. This will require a concerted effort from all stakeholders, including hyperscalers, colocation providers, and key technology partners. Read the full letter to understand the collaborative workstreams that are forming around Power, Cooling, Mechanical and Telemetry, sign the letter to show your commitment, and get involved here: https://bit.ly/3Wq9FCR

Open Compute Project Expands Open Chiplet Economy Ecosystem! OCP announces major contributions that expand the OCP Open Chiplet Economy and strengthen industry collaboration around chiplet-based design. New contributions to OCP include Foundation Chiplet System Architecture (FCSA) and BoW 2.0 for memory-intensive AI and HPC workloads "These contributions reflect the momentum of the Open Chiplet Economy, as it is based on a strong foundation of collaboration on open standardizations, tools and best practices," said Cliff Grossner, Ph.D., Chief Innovation Officer at OCP. "The Foundation Chiplet System Architecture provides a neutral baseline for collaboration, reducing fragmentation and giving the industry confidence in true interoperability. Meanwhile, BoW 2.0 enhancements extend Chiplet adoption into memory-intensive applications. Together they mark an important step toward open, interoperable silicon systems for designing, building and deploying economically viable and dynamic AI Clusters capable of achieving world-leading performance in HPC and AI workloads."
