🎙️ Falling Walls Science Summit 2025 | Science Integrity in the Age of AI We’re proud to share that Julia Claire Priess-Buchheit, supporter of the Open Science Learning GATE and researcher at Kiel University, is joining the Falling Walls Round Table on “Science Integrity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” in Berlin! Julia will discuss how #OpenScience, #ResearchIntegrity, and AI intersect — and how capacity-building initiatives can contribute to trustworthy and transparent research practices across Europe and beyond. Her research and work with GATE show how community-driven knowledge can strengthen integrity and innovation in rapidly evolving scientific ecosystems. By connecting trainers, researchers, funders, and infrastructures, the GATE continuously maps the guiding thoughts and practices of Open Science to ensure reliable, FAIR, and future-oriented education. The Round Table, moderated by Katrin J. Y. (Swiss Future Institute | Masterclass | Membership | Future Symposium | Consulting) and supported by Springer Nature, will bring together experts such as Chris Graf (Springer Nature), Rachael Gooberman-Hill (UK Committee on Research Integrity), and Dr. Philipp Herzig (SAP) to explore how AI can support – rather than threaten – research integrity #FallingWalls #ResearchIntegrity #OpenScience #ArtificialIntelligence #TrustInScience #GATEService #ScienceSummit #KielUniversity #SpringerNature #GATEReport

At Living Data 2025 in Bogotá, our colleagues Marie Alavi and Vanessa-Ariane Guzek Hernando presented “Ensuring continuous open data flow on the state of Open Science – GATE’s service for reliable research and optimum Open Science capacity building, practice and policies.” Their presentation showcased how GATE acts as a collaborative ecosystem — connecting knowledge creators, research communities, data infrastructures, and policy actors — to strengthen Open Science through trustworthy data practices, FAIR(-R) standards, and responsible conduct of research. Through its GATE Lifecycle, the platform continuously integrates community-contributed knowledge into actionable guidance, shared via the GATE Report, helping institutions align their Open Science materials, training, and policies for real-world impact. 👏 A heartfelt thank you to all participants of #LivingData2025 for engaging in this dialogue on sustainable and responsible data openness — and to our partners #NERQ, Kiel University, Pensoft Publishers, and MILLER INTERNATIONAL KNOWLEDGE (MIK) for their support. 🔗 Discover more: www.openscienceGATE.com

🌍 GATE thanks NERQ! Two years ago, researchers came together in the NERQ Special Interest Group on Open Science — and that’s where the idea for GATE was born. Today, GATE has grown into a vibrant, ever-expanding initiative offering some of the most effective solutions to advance Open Science, build capacity, and raise the quality and relevance of Open Science education and practice worldwide. But NERQ’s impact doesn’t stop there — its strength is felt across many areas: Research Methods Education, Research on Education, Supervision & Leadership, Research Security, and more. 💪 So here’s a big shout-out to interested ERCs or senior staff — and a warm call to support NERQ as a Responsible Organisers for NERQ's Reception at next year’s World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI 2026). A huge thank you to all SEA-EU partners, speakers, and participants for their active engagement and ideas — and to MILLER INTERNATIONAL KNOWLEDGE (MIK) for their continued legal and ethical support as GATE’s Secretariat. Together, we’re turning community knowledge into concrete actions for Open Science capacity building across Europe.
Yesterday, MILLER INTERNATIONAL KNOWLEDGE (MIK) had the great pleasure of participating in the SEA-EU workshop “Open Science Capacity Building: Finding Solutions” at the University of Hamburg — an inspiring two-day event uniting universities, researchers, and policymakers across Europe to advance Open Science collaboration. As part of our ongoing commitment to responsible research and innovation, MIK provides pro bono secretariat and legal services for the Open Science Learning Gate https://lnkd.in/dgAB35zF initiative — helping ensure that what the community builds together is legally secure, ethically robust, and community-driven. The workshop, led by Professor Julia Claire Priess-Buchheit (Kiel University) and supported by partners such as Ana Marusic from the University of Split, from Malta, Tim Errington, and others, focused on how Open Science meets Artificial Intelligence — exploring how AI tools can enhance transparency, reproducibility, and data sharing across research ecosystems. We were honoured to see so many dedicated experts working side by side to design the SEA-EU Capacity-Building Roadmap, which will align training, policy, and resources for Open Science across European universities. A heartfelt thank you to all organisers, speakers, and participants — and especially to our colleague Vanessa-Ariane Guzek Hernando, Policy Advocacy and Legal Director at MIK, who delivered the opening speech on our behalf, and to the whole GATE community for making collaboration across borders not only possible, but purposeful. Let’s keep building the bridge between evidence and action — and shaping the future of Open Science, together. #OpenScience #EthicsInResearch #CapacityBuilding #SEA-EU #GATE #MIK #ResearchGovernance #AI

You created knowledge on Open Science and Artificial Intelligence, upload your knowledge to the GATE and become a part of the European and global discussion on what is important in the next few years!
🌍 Open Science & Artificial Intelligence — Call for Contributions 🌍 I have been asked to write a report on the status quo of Open Science and AI. We all know how complicated and promising this intersection is — but there has been little oversight and little tangible analysis until today. That’s why I’m very happy that the following months will be full of exchanges about this topic! ➡️ Chairing the Open Science & AI session at #WCRI26 in Vancouver ( 😊 ), together with inspiring colleagues Eileen Clancy (Center for Open Science), Nicolaus Wilder (#ZKE), and Marie Alavie (Kiel University), Katharina Miller (MILLER INTERNATIONAL KNOWLEDGE). ➡️ Working with #IP4OS on OS & AI, particularly with librarians and publishers on legal obligations around licensing and the use of articles as training materials for AI (#INCONECSS2025 and ZBW - Leibniz-Informationszentrum Wirtschaft / ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics). ➡️ Invited to two upcoming #GATE workshops (European University of the Seas SEA-EU and #OSC2025 in Hamburg, October 2025) that will focus on OS & AI (https://shorturl.at/hPg4A). These workshops and our discussions will draw on knowledge contributed to the 📍 GATE Service 📍. This will inform future discussions and policymaking. 👉 This is where I’d like to ask my network: If you have already published work, developed concepts, or created educational materials on Open Science & AI, please share them via the GATE Service. Your contributions will be shared amongst the community and help us: 1️⃣ build an overview of the field, 2️⃣ inform policy making, and 3️⃣ strengthen the European Research Area in taking the next steps to make research effective, reliable, and transparent. 🔗 Contribute here: https://lnkd.in/eYbeV3bx I look forward to learning from you and bringing these insights into the upcoming report and discussions! #OpenScience #AI #WCRI2026 #OSC2025 #INCONECSS2025 #ResearchIntegrity #CapacityBuilding

You can already register for the Open Science Conference on 08 and 09 October with its extensive programme. This year’s conference will have a special focus on the intersection between Open Science and AI. The rapid integration of artificial intelligence and corresponding tools into scientific research poses both new challenges but also opportunities for Open Science practices. This requires a reflection on how this can be aligned with transparency, accessibility, reproducibility, and reusability as core principles of Open Science.
