The PSPCA rescues animals from cruelty & neglect, giving them a second chance at loving and safe "furever" homes.

About us

What’s in a name? Well, it turns out – a lot! It is surprising to many that the Pennsylvania SPCA is not associated with the ASPCA or any other SPCAs throughout the state or country. The ASPCA does not serve as a governing body, and though we are all partnering at times to improve animal welfare, we are not formally attached to one another. We are all our own nonprofit with individual missions. The PSPCA’s mission is to protect animals, prevent cruelty and to improve the health and quality of life throughout Pennsylvania. We do this through our four physical locations – North Philadelphia, Danville, Fishtown and Lancaster, as well as through our Humane Law Enforcement Department which covers 23 counties throughout the state. So why does this matter? The PSPCA has boots on the ground 365 days a year throughout Pennsylvania. When you support the PSPCA, your donation directly goes toward helping animals suffering from cruelty and neglect in your own community. Thank you for valuing our work and for enabling us to continue our lifesaving mission.

The Foxwynd Foundation is proud to partner with the Pennsylvania SPCA in support of the purchase of a new Animal Law Enforcement transport vehicle, as well as the renovation of aging kennels at the organization’s Philadelphia headquarters! The grant, totaling $70,000, is part of a matching program funding a much-needed vehicle for the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement (ALE) program- the only operation of its kind serving 18 Pennsylvania counties. PSPCA ALE officers respond to some of the most heartbreaking cases of cruelty and neglect, and the new transport vehicle will ensure they can continue this lifesaving work safely and efficiently. • It’s BACK! Our Second Annual Pittiefest is here, and we are ready to celebrate our blocky-headed besties in a BIG way! From August 1 - 15, adoption fees for pittie-type dogs at ALL of our locations will be reduced to $5, thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Tortorella Foundation. During Pittiefest, we're not just finding homes - we're busting myths, sharing facts, and shining a spotlight on these lovable dogs who too often get overlooked. For instance, did you know that "pitbull" isn't an actual breed? It's a broad term used to describe dogs with similar traits and characteristics. If you've been looking to add a member to your family, now is the time! Head to our Philadelphia headquarters, Danville Center, Lancaster Center, or Main Line Animal Rescue to meet your new best friend. Standard adoption policies and procedures still apply. See which dogs are included at: www.pspca.org/adoptdogs

  • Your compassion has always been there when we've needed you most. Today, we're facing an urgent facilities emergency. Our HVAC systems are failing across multiple locations. First, the PSPCA's Lancaster Center has been forced to CLOSE after a complete system shutdown - all animals were moved to our already full Philadelphia and Main Line Animal Rescue locations while the city of Lancaster figures out a fix. Then...Main Line Animal Rescue's AC in the cat area and a portion of our dog kennels failed. And then...one of the 23 HVAC systems at our Philadelphia HQ went down, impacting our hospital, behavior rooms, cat rooms, and adoption areas. Another major unit is malfunctioning; we were able to service that unit, but it is hanging on by a thread until the fall, when a full replacement will be required. Hundreds of animals are without proper cooling in this summer heat. The rescued dogs you've helped save, the cats you've helped heal - they're all depending on us to keep them safe and comfortable. Our staff is scrambling to ensure they are safe and cared for, but we need your help. The cost of our emergency repairs and transports is nearly $100,000. A few generous donors have already provided $30,000 of matching donations, will you help us cover the rest? Your emergency gift today will help ensure every animal in our care stays cool, safe, and healthy. We won't let them suffer - they're counting on your kindness right now. • 1470 days. 1470 sunrises and sunsets. 1470 days of being loved by shelter staff and volunteers. Smokey is our longest term resident. He has been in our case since November of 2020. He has so many friends here, and he gains more and more fans every day. But, in his four years in our care, he has yet to catch the attention of a single adopter. With a smile as bright as his, we cannot imagine why that is. Do adopters think that there must be something wrong with him? There isn't. Is it because he has to be the only pet? That's more love to give. We aren't sure, but what we are sure of is that we aren't giving up. He isn't giving up either. Please share for Smokey. He deserves a life out of the shelter. Let's give it to him. - The Pennsylvania SPCA 350 E Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134 Kennel #3079

  • For two years, A.J. Brown waited for a home. He was overlooked for so long and for reasons unknown. Until now. After seeing his viral video, one family decided to take a chance on A.J., and, to no one's surprise, they quickly fell in love with him. And on Friday, his adoption was processed, making him an official member of their family. What they say must be true, A.J. - great things come to those who wait.

  • Not all heroes are human. For 28 courageous dogs who lived by the motto "Protect and Serve," a retirement home after their careers were finished was far from loving and peaceful. After serving on the front lines of war-torn countries, alongside law enforcement agencies across the nation, and spending their days sniffing through major transportation hubs, these hero dogs were sent to what was meant to be a haven, but was closer to a hell. Thanks to our Animal Law Enforcement team's efforts, they were not only rescued, but provided with the medical care they so desperately needed, and the opportunity to find what they had been promised - comfortable, loving homes to spend their final days. Today, while many are now cherished family members, four dogs remain in our care. We know their time is coming. We will do all that we can to find them families, too. Please consider making a donation to honor these special beings. They deserve the recognition for their heroic work: https://lnkd.in/gEhF5mWD

  • Smokey, we promise your family is out there. Someday you’ll get to lie on a soft couch and go on long early morning walks with your person. You’ll be showered in “gotcha day” gifts and will eat all the best treats. We promise that someday you’ll be part of a family. Until then, we will wait with you. Don’t lose hope. Smokey has been waiting at our Philadelphia headquarters for nearly four years awaiting his family. Please share for this special boy. - The Pennsylvania SPCA 350 E Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134 Kennel #3079
