Diwali is the Indian Festival of Lights celebrated by hundreds of millions of people this month. It’s a cross-cultural event, celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and others. It’s increasingly celebrated in America as well, with three states (PA, CT, CA) now recognizing Diwali as a state holiday. The festival takes place over five days and is marked by oil lamps, sparklers, gifts, and festive family meals. Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil and is the biggest holiday of the year in India. One of the most fun aspects of Diwali is all the food—especially the sweets! Diwali food is often vegan, so making it all vegan is just a matter of being mindful of a few key ingredients like yoghurt, butter, and ghee. With more than two million members and supporters, PETA India is one of the most active PETA entities. Since 2000, the dedicated team has been busy all over the country advocating for good over evil in the food, clothing, entertainment, and experimentation industries. PETA India’s work includes getting glue traps banned in Indian states, successfully pressing the government of India to ban the export of reptile skins and various fur items for fashion, and even introducing animatronic elephants to temples, helping real elephants live in nature. Elephants are highly social, intelligent animals who live in matrilineal groups. They care for one another, young and old, and show respect for their dead, touching the bones of the departed with their trunks in apparent mourning. They belong in nature, living their best lives, not chained. Happy Diwali to all, whether you have two legs or four! https://lnkd.in/e2T8wRXW #Diwali #festival #holiday #celebrate #recipes #vegan #PETAIndia #animals #compassion #VeganFood #FestivalOfLights #food #HappyDiwali

About us
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) entities have more than 10.4 million members and supporters globally, and PETA U.S. is the largest animal rights organization in the world. PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of rodents, birds, and other animals who are often considered “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns. PETA Foundation was founded in 1993 as an organization that helps PETA run, and includes departments like IT, Development, and Interactive Media. PETA and the PETA Foundation are two separate organizations but work very closely together. Looking for a career in animal rights? Depression Awareness Month (October) began in the 1990s to increase public recognition of one of the most common mental health disorders. Nearly four decades have passed, and we still have a lot to learn. Depression is complex. It includes major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, seasonal affective disorder, postpartum depression and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Each has different causes and treatments. Depression is also extremely common. Depressive disorders are the leading cause of disability worldwide. About 332 million people experience depression globally, with nearly 21 million U.S. adults affected. Despite its prevalence among humans, research on depression has predominantly relied on studying other animals. It’s a counterintuitive practice that diverts resources from human-relevant studies and hinders scientific understanding of this condition and potential treatments, all while subjecting animals to pointless cruelty. State-of-the-art, non-animal methods can better study human depression and aid in developing treatments, helping people get the support they need and deserve while sparing countless animals unnecessary tests. The National Institutes of Health recently announced a major paradigm shift toward prioritizing human-based research. By doing so, we will finally move closer to finding treatments for the millions who suffer. https://lnkd.in/eQ_6DzSF #Depression #DepressionAwareness #DepressionAwarenessMonth #MentalHealth #Treatment #Research #Science #Animals #AnimalStudies #AnimalResearch #AnimalCruelty #AnimalWelfare #AnimalRights #AnimalLiberation

Dog abandoned with backpack of supplies, kittens abandoned in a sealed box during a heatwave, and a dog found tied up with a note reading “Please help.” These heartbreaking stories of abandoned animals are just a few snippets of a massive crisis. Why are these stories flooding the news and social media more than ever? A surprising and overlooked reason is driving this influx of atrocities. Take a look. https://lnkd.in/e7JStG7S #animals #dogs #cats #homeless #crisis #heatwave #abandon #supplies #shelters #saveanimals #PETA

We’ve exposed Farmer Focus as a company that slaughters about 600k chickens per week and markets their dead bodies to you as “humane”—urge The Fresh Market to rethink its ties with the brand! Whistleblowers have claimed that, at Farmer Focus’ contract farms and slaughterhouse, cruel handling leaves chickens with high injury rates, and botched killings put them through long, painful deaths. Yet the company hides behind seals of approval from “humane” and “animal welfare” certifiers, Humane Farm Animal Care (HFAC) and Global Animal Partnership (GAP), which don’t actually prevent the suffering that chickens killed for food go through. Please help us urge The Fresh Market to reconsider its business relationship with this company! https://lnkd.in/g9vzB2jn #TakeAction #Animals #AnimalWelfare #AnimalCruelty #AnimalRights #AnimalLiberation #HumaneMeat #CertifiedHumane #HumaneWashing #GreenWashing #FarmerFocus #TheFreshMarket #HFAC #GAP

Animal-free science isn’t only the future; in this German laboratory, it’s already the curriculum! Scientists at Technische Universität Berlin and Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany have published a paper on a biology laboratory course that’s completely animal-free. PETA Science Consortium International e.V. provided funding to help support the development of this innovative course. Led by Dr. Jens Kurreck, a professor of applied biochemistry and a recognized expert in bioprinting technology, the team has successfully piloted a graduate-level laboratory course that eliminates the use of animal parts such as fetal bovine serum (FBS) and antibodies taken from animals. Animal parts like these present several problems for practical science and learning. Each batch differs from the next, resulting in less reliable and reproducible outcomes. Instead, this innovative course equips students with hands-on experience in state-of-the-art, animal-free methodologies, helping to nurture a new generation of scientists committed to reproducible and ethically responsible research. The best part? Other universities can adapt the course to their needs. The curriculum also highlights the scientific and ethical advantages of transitioning to animal-free research methods. In addition to providing funding to help run this course, Dr. Kurreck received free equipment from the Science Consortium that can help replace the use of animals in tests to predict whether chemicals can compromise the lung barrier and enter the bloodstream. By replacing outdated practices that use animal parts, Dr. Kurreck and his team have set a new standard for bioscience education—one that upholds both scientific accuracy and compassion for animals. https://lnkd.in/ghs-h8qj #AnimalFree #CrueltyFree #Science #Research #Curriculum #Education #Bioscience #Biology #AnimalScience #AnimalResearch #AnimalStudies #AnimalWelfare #AnimalRights #AnimalLiberation #Innovation

Me-wow! A new claw law is coming to California that puts cats’ health and happiness first. Find out all the details about this exciting win for cats. The new law, signed into effect by Governor Gavin Newsom, prohibits declawing “for a cosmetic or aesthetic purpose,” only allowing claws to be removed by a veterinarian if it is medically necessary for a cat’s health. A cat’s claws are integrated into their toes, so “declawing” means amputating each toe’s last joint—the equivalent of cutting off a human’s fingers at the top knuckle. This crippling operation forces cats to relearn how to walk, permanently alters their balance, and causes chronic pain. Many declawed cats live with lifelong physical disabilities, which also lead to psychological stress, fear, and aggression. Instead of amputating part of a cat’s paw to limit clawing, try some kind solutions like those found in the book 250 Vital Things Your Cat Wants You to Know. To start, provide your cat with scratching posts, plenty of toys, and frequent nail trims. https://lnkd.in/e53cUF8m #cats #claws #law #health #happiness #victory #advocate #activists #CatHealth #AnimalCare #California #ClawLaw #win #exciting #CompanionAnimals

Another win ensured: After learning from PETA about the suffering and exploitation behind live-animal displays, the Florida Association of Insurance Agents confirmed it will never use wild animals at any of its future association events! That’s one fewer client for greedy animal suppliers who treat wild animals like party props—renting them out, forcing them to perform, and often confining them to barren cages. https://lnkd.in/e5fBKe6V #win #suffering #exploitation #animals #greedy #victory #care #activist #compassion #WildAnimals #NotOurs2Use #NotYourEntertaiment #AnimalLiberation

Imagine being forced to live your entire life at the end of a chain with no freedom to run, no companionship, no mental stimulation, and often no protection from extreme weather. For many dogs, this is their reality. Dogs left outside suffer physical and emotional neglect. Is there a chained dog in your neighborhood? Here’s what to do if a dog is left outside. https://lnkd.in/ex3ajv4E #dog #dogs #CompanionAnimal #breakingthechain #animalrights #animalliberation #saveanimals #antitethering #helpdogs
