Empowering the Global Data Community – Highlights from Day 4 of #RDAPlenary25 The final day of the 25th RDA Plenary, as part of International Data Week (IDW), celebrated the strength of our global community and the shared mission to make data more open, equitable, and inclusive. 💡 Closing Plenary: Empowering the Global Data Community Speakers from across the globe reflected on the social impact of Open Science: Dr Sandra Collins discussed efforts to improve national archives to better represent women, sharing examples from the National Folklore Collection in Ireland. Dr Nokuthula Mchunu called for greater authorship and representation from African researchers: “We’re the data points, but rarely the authors.” Rodrigo Roa presented Chile’s Data Observatory and LatamGPT - calling for more data infrastructure designed to reflect Latin American contexts. Devika Madalli shared India’s One Nation, One Subscription initiative, expanding access to research across languages and regions. 🔭 Looking Ahead Enjoyed #IDW2025? 🌍 Collaboration, Innovation, and Impact at Day 3 of #RDAPlenary25 Day 3 of the 25th RDA Plenary (as part of #IDW2025) saw another varied programme, from strategic conversations between RDA Groups and the RDA Technical Advisory Board (TAB), to forward-looking discussions on #AI and Data Visitation, research assessment, and the power of infrastructure to support #OpenScience. ✅ TAB Meets Co-Chairs RDA Group co-chairs met with members of the Technical Advisory Board, strengthening the technical foundations that support RDA’s global network of Working and Interest Groups. ✅ Funders Forum Update Funding organisations came together to discuss policy and infrastructure developments, including national PID strategies, ORCID integration, and an exciting new collaboration with Microsoft on agentic AI. 💡 Spotlight on AI & Data Visitation (AIDV) Working Group The AIDV Working Group showcased the “DV4RDA” project, advancing secure and interoperable data visitation environments across borders, directly putting RDA principles into practice. 🤝 CoARA Boost Roundtable Research Data Alliance Europe joined discussions on reshaping research assessment through ethics and integrity, introducing the CoARA Boost project: “Teaming for self-evaluation in research assessment across scales.” Join us tomorrow for 14 more breakout sessions, 4 Birds of a Feather meetings, and the final plenary, “Empowering the Global Data Community for Impact, Equity and Inclusion.” Don’t miss the closing ceremony and exciting announcements about future RDA plenaries! 🌍 Exploring the Global Impact of the Research Data Alliance on Day 2 of #RDAPlenary25. The afternoon’s “Global Impact of the RDA” session spotlighted how RDA’s community-driven model is shaping the future of data sharing and open science. ✅ RDA Secretary General Hilary Hanahoe opened with a powerful reminder of RDA’s global collaboration in action, producing practical, adoptable solutions to data-sharing challenges. ✅ Aleksandra Lazić, last year's winner of The Sarah Jones Award, shared how the award amplified her work on REPOPSI and encouraged nominations for the 2026 edition: 🗣️ “Nominate someone who makes you feel good about practising Open Science.” ✅ The Global Open Research Commons (GORC) took centre stage, showcasing how its model is now influencing policy and infrastructure worldwide. ✅ Agentic AI in Support of Science was introduced by Connie Clare, PhD and Marcy L. Collinson as a new initiative between Microsoft and the RDA, to guide researchers in preparing data for AI-driven discovery. 🐅 The TIGER Project update unveiled tools like the RDA Knowledge Graph, designed to make outputs more discoverable and reusable, ensuring RDA results don’t get “lost to the PDF graveyard.” Wim Hugo Alex Delipalta ✅ Finally, the Complex Citations Working Group proposed new ways to credit multi-object research outputs, shaping the future of data citation. 🌟 TIGERs in action! RDA TIGER was featured during the "The global, multifaceted impact of the Research Data Alliance" session at the International Data Week (IDW) showcasing the important and impactful work the three-year project has delivered in benefit of the RDA community and the broader european and international data communities. Alex Delipalta, Project coordinator, shared the most important achievements of the project, including service offerings and funding to support RDA Working Groups and the development and adoption of RDA Outputs.
