✨ Holistic Insights from #FUTURE4BATT Workshop – Cross-Cutting Learnings – Towards a Circular Battery Future
Across all roundtables, several core themes emerged — each critical to Europe's circular battery ecosystem:
💎 Waste → resource: Batteries and black mass must be redefined to unlock value. Revitalise aims to achieve high-purity black mass material separation (≥97% for cathode and graphite), and hydrometallurgical processes to recover over 70% of lithium and produce battery-grade materials (Li₂CO₃, NMC salts, Fe salts, graphite) with >99% purity.
⚠️ Policy-practice gap: Regulatory ambition must be supported by coherent, enforceable mechanisms.
🔍 Data transparency via tools like the Battery Passport is foundational.
🏗️ Infrastructure must match innovation—from recycling tech, such as Revitalise pre-treatment technologies that do not require the use of hammer mills to achieve cost effective & high purity separation, to legal and logistical support.
🤝 Shared responsibility across the value chain is non-negotiable.
🧱 Eco-design & standardisation are catalysts for dismantling, reuse, and recycling.
💶 Economic signals — mandates, incentives, stable markets—are necessary to catalyse uptake.
👉 If we align innovation, infrastructure, policy, and finance, together we can turn circularity ambition into real-world impact.
