This Minority Mental Health Month, we’re honoring leaders like Kay Matthews who are helping to bridge the gap in care for Black mothers and communities of color. As an advocate, policy changemaker, and a Black woman who’s experienced postpartum depression herself, Kay has spent over a decade fighting for systems that see, hear, and support Black women through every stage of the postpartum journey. We know the disparities are real—and may be rooted in stigma, inequity, and inaccessibility. That’s why Kay and her team at Shades of Blue Project are committed to building something better: a future where culturally competent, accessible care isn’t a luxury—it’s a standard. There’s more work to be done. Check out the Shades of Blue website for resources, information about their upcoming #BlackMaternalMentalHealthWeek Summit on July 23-25 and more: https://lnkd.in/g7f6unbg #MinorityMentalHealthMonth #BlackMaternalMentalHealth

Dads play a critical role in building the kind of support systems new moms need—especially when it comes to her mental health. For Mike, a Sagean dad, fatherhood has been a crash course in the connection between mental health and family well-being. He’s learned that small, consistent actions—like stepping in during tough moments, asking thoughtful questions, or taking the baby on a walk so his partner can decompress—can go a long way. But perhaps the biggest shift? Realizing that mental health doesn’t just affect him or his partner—it shapes the whole home. "My baby is remarkably perceptive,” Mike shared. “He's taught me that if you're stressed, they feel it. If you're calm, they can mirror that too. So taking care of your mental health isn’t just about you anymore—it’s about your baby, your partner, and the tone you set together.” Thank you to all the dads whose partnership can make a big difference, especially during the critical postpartum period. We see you and appreciate you! #MentalHealthMatters #ThisisSage

“I wasn’t crying all the time—I just felt empty. I thought that meant I didn’t have postpartum depression (PPD).” Emily Johnson, MHA is a mom, a healthcare advocate, and a survivor of severe PPD that set in shortly after giving birth. In her own words, she describes what it really felt like, how fast things unraveled, and the role her own mother played in getting her the help she needed. Her story is a reminder that PPD may not always look the same for everyone, and with the right support, healing is possible. Swipe through to read about Emily’s experience—and her message for any mom silently struggling today. If you or someone you love needs help, support is available. Postpartum depression is one of the most common conditions associated with pregnancy, yet it often goes undetected. What’s standing in the way of diagnosis? And how can we all do better? Join us at #ACOG2025 for “A Look Into an Overlooked Condition”– a can’t-miss, thought-provoking session with Joy Baker, MD, FACOG, PMH-C, C-EFM, MT(ASCP), as she explores what’s missing from the conversation and how we can better support women during this critical time. 🗓 Friday, May 16th 🕐 12:10 PM CT 📍ACOG Central Stage, hosted by Sage Therapeutics + Biogen #PoweredbyPurpose #MaternalMentalHealth

This Mother’s Day, we’re honoring the strength it takes to ask for help. After the birth of her second daughter, Shari found herself overwhelmed, exhausted, and disconnected from the joy of motherhood. Her journey through postpartum depression wasn’t linear—and it wasn’t easy. But through self-advocacy, treatment, and support, she found her way back to feeling like herself. Shari’s story is a reminder that motherhood doesn’t always look like the movies—and that’s okay. By speaking up, she’s helping others feel less alone. Thank you, Shari, for sharing your truth—and reminding us all that every mother deserves to feel seen, heard, and helped. 💜 Shared with gratitude alongside our partners at Biogen. #MothersDay #MaternalMentalHealth #PPDawareness #PostpartumDepression #StrongerTogether #YouAreNotAlone

Hi everyone, Dr. Jessica Jackson here—closing out today’s takeover in honor of Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week. Throughout my career, I’ve always believed that representation is a form of action. I became a psychologist because I wanted people in my community to feel seen, heard, and supported—and I’ve dedicated my work to building equity in mental health care. At Mental Health America, we’re focused on helping people move from awareness to action. That action might look like checking in on a new mom, encouraging someone to take a screener, or simply offering space to talk without judgment. These moments may seem small, but they are powerful—and they can be lifesaving. To all the moms who may be struggling right now: you are not alone, and you are not failing. Your wellness matters, and help is out there. Remember to discuss any symptoms you are experiencing with a doctor right away. Thank you to everyone who followed along with today’s conversation. I hope it leaves you feeling seen—and inspired to take one small step toward change. 💜 Explore more resources and tools—including MHA’s Maternal Mental Health Action Guide—at: https://bit.ly/3RRvFUR With gratitude, Dr. Jackson #MHM #MaternalMentalHealth #PostpartumDepression #MMHWeek2025 #MHM2025 #TurnAwarenessIntoAction

Hi everyone, Dr. Jessica Jackson here—honored to take over Sage’s social channels today in recognition of Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week. Since founding Mental Health Month in 1949, Mental Health America has brought millions of people together every May to raise awareness, provide resources, and advocate for everyone’s mental well-being. This year, our theme—Turn Awareness into Action—challenges us to go beyond understanding and take meaningful steps toward change. At MHA, we’re reaching people at scale. In 2024 alone, over 6.5 million people completed mental health screeners on our website, including thousands seeking clarity about postpartum depression. That’s the kind of impact that drew me to this work. The truth is, symptoms of postpartum depression can vary from person to person. Some women may just need a check-in. Others may need therapy, medication, or more comprehensive care. That’s why it’s important to discuss any symptoms with a doctor right away. No matter what, all deserve to be met with compassion—not judgment. If you’re looking for ways to take action—whether for yourself, a loved one, or your community—check out MHA’s Action Guide for simple, meaningful steps you can take today: https://lnkd.in/djcAq2zj Stay tuned for more this afternoon, and thank you for joining this important conversation! With care, Dr. Jackson #MHM #MaternalMentalHealth #PostpartumDepression #MMHWeek2025 #MHM2025 #TurnAwarenessIntoAction
