We believe spatial justice is social justice is racial justice is climate justice.
About us
Salazar Architect collaborates with community partners to create space for climate justice and for the advancement of racial, gender, and economic equity in the built environment. We envision equitable, resilient, and just communities that are restorative and liberatory for those marginalized and harmed by racialized policies and practices; shaped by community voice and lived experience; and economically and culturally supportive of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and other marginalized communities. Our reason for doing the work we do is not to achieve design awards, but to achieve social impact. Because of this mission, Salazar Architect is uniquely structured and organized around three Design Research Labs: Community Design, Wellbeing Design, and Sustainable Design. These three tenets form the core ethos of our work. Our designs are community-based, trauma-informed, and seek to bring tangible community benefits to their neighborhoods. Salazar Architect Inc. is a certified Oregon MBE / DBE firm, and Federal/California DBE. With offices located in Portland and Sacramento, we serve communities up and down the west coast.

We recently celebrated the grand opening of Altura Housing, which provides seventy-five households with quality, family-friendly affordable housing in an up-and-coming area of Beaverton, Oregon. Developed by BRIDGE Housing Corporation, and built by Colas Construction, several apartments include features for residents with mobility, visibility, and hearing impairments or disabilities, and all residents have access to supportive services, provided by Impact NW. It’s the first affordable housing development completed in the South Cooper Mountain neighborhood– located near great schools as well as recreation and shopping areas. Like other affordable housing, Altura’s development leveraged private/public partnerships and investments and used this capital wisely. Supported by Oregon Housing & Community Services (OHCS), Metro, Washington County, and City of Beaverton, Altura would not have been possible without Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) funds, an important program serving many communities across the US. People thrive when they have a safe place to live and are welcomed as members of that community. We're happy to be making progress on this new apartment building in Sacramento!
Exciting news for Vertical Pacific Development and CLTRE! We've worked hard with Salazar Architect Inc. to reach this milestone and we are eager to revitalize the long-neglected Del Paso Blvd corridor. While there will be many hurdles for us to clear in the coming months, we're optimistic that our local community will support this project and help drive it forward. Wish us luck & stay tuned! Thanks to the Oregonian for this story on Juniper House! https://lnkd.in/giH9w3_8

Huge congratulations to Ernestina Fuenmayor for the successful listing of Juniper House on the National Register of Historic Places!! Ernestina authored the nomination with input from community historians, surviving Juniper House staff, and current property owners. Juniper House provided shelter, dignity, and end-of-life care for many Portlanders suffering from AIDS and HIV during the height of the epidemic. Now more than ever, it's critical to preserve the histories of our LGBTQ+ community– stories of resilience, of overcoming barriers and prejudice, and reminding us all of the power of compassion and empathy. https://lnkd.in/gvPa9iCu
