  • Braille is a tactile writing system that was developed in 1824 by French teenager Louis Braille. It has helped open up reading and writing to blind and visually impaired people all over the world – including Sir John Wilson, the founder of Sightsavers. Thanks to Braille’s invention, Wilson was able to complete his education and go on to set up our organisation. Braille materials are part of many of our health and disability projects today, and help contribute to addressing inequality through inclusion.

  • More than a billion people can’t see clearly not because treatment doesn’t exist, but because they can’t reach or afford it. This is inequality in plain sight. We deliver screenings, glasses and operations where the need is greatest, restoring sight and livelihoods. 👁️ Help close the gap. Your support today can give someone the gift of vision tomorrow.

  • 1.1 billion people live with avoidable vision loss. 👁️ The solution is simple - basic eye care. The cost of solving it? Just one-sixteenth of what poor vision drains from the global economy annually. We have carried out 236 million eye exams and 12 million sight-saving operations. ✨ With your support, we can end the eye health crisis. • Excluding people with disabilities from work costs low and middle income countries 7 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) every year. That’s billions lost, simply because talent is locked out. We partner with employers, trains young people, and advocates for disability-inclusive workplaces. 💪 Support us to open doors and break down barriers. Together, inclusion wins. • Everyone has the right to good quality health care – but this is out of reach for countless people around the world. Through global partnerships like the Reaching The Last Mile Fund (RLMF), we’re aiming to address this injustice. #RLMF is supporting national governments across Africa to deliver millions of treatments for neglected tropical diseases. We’re also making sure that drug treatment campaigns are including women and girls, people with disabilities, and other marginalised groups. • Poverty, poor health, and exclusion. These aren’t natural disasters. They’re choices societies make. That means we can choose something better. From restoring sight to creating jobs for people with disabilities, we show that change is possible. 🌍 Join us to rewrite the story and make equality the norm.

More than 100 million people are no longer at risk from one or more neglected tropical diseases (NTDs)! We are proud that this milestone has been reached with Sightsavers' support. For decades, we’ve been working with governments to tackle NTDs like trachoma - an eye disease that can lead to permanent blindness. Ariel (pictured) was recently diagnosed with the disease. Through a partnership between Sightsavers and the ministry of health in Zimbabwe, he was able to receive treatment that will protect his eyesight. His mother Enitah said that "when trachoma is eliminated, we will all be happy." Find out more about how we were able to reach Ariel and millions of others - and why we need go further to create a healthier and fairer world 👇 https://lnkd.in/eUpPGrq9

Behind every life saved from neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) is a network of dedicated community health volunteers, like Lomoi who has been serving his community in Kenya since 2019. From distributing trachoma medicine in the early hours of the morning, to educating families on hygiene, and helping build toilets and shelters, community volunteers are the backbone of public health in remote and underserved areas. They are driven by compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to their communities. We’re proud that we’ve now worked in partnership with community volunteers to protect over 100 million people from the threat of NTDs! This is a great milestone, but the journey is far from over. Let’s work together to protect millions more from these painful and poverty-trapping diseases.👇 https://lnkd.in/eUpPGrq9
