About us
Sources of Strength is a best practice suicide prevention and wellness program that utilizes the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, towards the outcome of ultimately preventing suicide, bullying and substance abuse. A groundbreaking research trial published in 2024 found Sources of Strength secondary program reduces suicide attempts by nearly 30%. The program focuses on spreading Hope, Help and Strength and is designed to prevent suicide by increasing help seeking behaviors and connections between peers and caring adults. “My relationships with students in Sources are more authentic than anywhere else.” That’s the kind of culture Sources of Strength Elementary Program strives to promote: a culture of connection. Part 1 of our new series explores how K–5 lessons plus staff wellbeing shape connection, hope, and help-seeking across a school. As co-author Matt Hofmeister put it: “We’re not offering a quick fix. We’re cultivating protective factors students carry for life.” 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d7BxRecb #HopeHelpStrength #ElementaryEducation #StaffWellbeing #SourcesOfStrength

💙 At Claude Moore Opportunities, we know that expanding the youth mental health workforce isn’t just about building careers — it’s about saving lives. Earlier this month, we launched a new initiative with partners including George Mason University’s Center for Community Mental Health, Serve Virginia, and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research to strengthen Virginia’s youth mental health pipeline. Last week, we saw that vision in action. Nearly 30 AmeriCorps members, nonprofit leaders, students, and youth advocates gathered at GMU for a four-day Sources of Strength “train-the-trainer” workshop, co-hosted with ConnerStrong Foundation and Sources of Strength in honor of National Suicide Prevention Month. These milestones mark the start of a broader effort to: 1. Expand access to youth mental health support across Virginia. 2. Provide AmeriCorps members with credentialing pathways into mental health careers. 3. Equip communities with peer-driven prevention strategies centered on hope, connection, and belonging. We are proud to work alongside our partners to build stronger safety nets for young people while growing the workforce they deserve. 📖 Learn more about the initiative: https://lnkd.in/etMfWRAK

“Sources of Strength upends traditional models. It’s not about scare tactics. It’s about building strength, connection and community.” — Tracey Ratzburg, ThedaCare That’s exactly what rural Wisconsin schools did, they turned towards the Strengths that were already present in their schools and communities, and the results speak volumes. While sadness rose across the state and nation, these schools found something different: hope. Thanks to ThedaCare’s partnership with local schools, youth and adults, students reported up to a 19% drop in prolonged sadness between 2021–2023. A powerful reminder that upstream prevention can have meaningful, sustained & measurable impact.
