One year. Zero paid ads. 1M++ monthly active users 🚀 Introducing Animal Company our viral, Gen Alpha-powered hit from Spatial’s Wooster Games team, now featured in Meta’s latest case study. A year ago, our team spotted a shift: 📊 24% of U.S. teens were engaging with gaming in VR, and F2P titles made up 40% of the top-performing games. What started as a six-week hackathon project is now one of the most-watched, most-played VR games worldwide with: 🎯 1B+ organic views on TikTok 🎯 1M+ monthly active users 🎯 300K+ Discord members 🎯 4.8⭐ rating on Meta Quest from over 135,000 reviews At Spatial, whether we're building original IP like Animal Company or branded experiences like Walmart UNLIMITED, our approach is grounded in audience segmentation and behavior-driven design. From day one, Animal Company was crafted with #GenAlpha in mind, a generation that doesn’t just play, but posts, remixes, reacts, and co-creates. The game and community engagement strategy were built around their behaviors: short-form discovery, social chaos, peer learning, and a constant thirst for "you had to be there" moments. Today, Animal Company is more than a VR hit. It's a case study in what happens when you: 🎮 Design for shareable moments with friends 🤝 Empower Gen Alpha creator communities 📈 Monetize with intention and data ⚡ And deliver weekly updates like a live service studio Shoutout to the Wooster Games team, who went from a five-person dev squad to a full VR studio within Spatial, who continues to ship updates, inspire creators, and move culture. Great insights from Spatial Co-Founder Anand Agarawala 🔜 GDC on how our industry-leading consumer segmentation strategies helped shape Animal Company VR —now the top-earning game on the Meta App Store! 🎮🚀 #GameDev #VR #Spatial #GDC #MadeWithUnity
Meta's $50 Million Horizon Worlds fund announced last week is the wrong strategy, but Fortnite and Roblox developers should still consider building on Meta's platform. 📈 The total market for game content on the Meta Quest store has grown to be comparable to Roblox. Last year, Meta Quest Store developers have generated somewhere between $700M and $1B after platform fees. On Roblox, it was $923 million and on Fortnite it was $345 million. 🪣 However, the number of games being developed for VR are infinitesimal compared to Roblox and Fortnite Last year, there were 200 thousand maps published on Fortnite, and five million published on Roblox. On the Meta Quest Store, there are roughly one thousand games published each year between the Meta Quest Store and its App Lab. 🎩 Just like Roblox and Fortnite, breakthrough VR Games tend to stay on top The top two Fortnite Creative games are four and five years old, while the top 2 Roblox games are four and six years old The average age of a top 10 VR game is six years. 🎯 The Meta Quest market is growing and getting younger, enabled by cheaper headsets, which enables new games like Animal Company to breakthrough, and potentially exhibit similar staying power. I sat down with Anand Agarawala, the CEO and Co-Founder of Spatial to learn more about how their first Meta Quest game, Animal Company, became the top earning game on the platform. Link to the full interview in the comments!
