🏢 Architects: From Colombo to every corner of the world, architecture connects us. The conversations at this year’s AIA International Conference reaffirmed why that connection matters. From the moment I arrived in Sri Lanka, I was struck by the country’s deep relationship between people, place, and the natural world. In Colombo, architecture doesn’t stand apart from its surroundings—it grows from them. Each building, each space, tells a story of harmony between culture, nature, and innovation. Throughout the week, I met with architects from across the globe who share a common belief: our work must serve both humanity and the planet. Conversations around regenerative design, resilient housing, and climate innovation weren’t just theory—they were a call to action. As I shared in my opening remarks, AIA’s international network now includes 7 chapters, 5 sections, and over 3,300 members abroad. That growth matters because the future of architecture is global. Every exchange of knowledge across borders strengthens our collective ability to design for a better world. I’m deeply grateful to the AIA International leadership team, especially Nela De Zoysa and Yew Kee Chong, FAIA, for creating a conference that not only celebrated design excellence but also embodied it in spirit, generosity, and collaboration. As one of only a few Asian—and specifically Chinese-American—presidents of the American Institute of Architects, I’m especially proud to continue strengthening relationships across Asia. Our shared cultural values of balance, respect, and community resonate deeply with the principles that guide our profession. The energy in Colombo was contagious, and I returned home inspired by the creativity and optimism I witnessed in every session and every conversation. The work continues. The network expands. Here we grow again. _____________________ Hi, 👋🏻 I’m Evelyn Lee, FAIA | NOMA As the 2025 AIA President, I’m dedicated to fostering a profession where architects: ⇒ Thrive Together ⇒ Embrace Opportunities ⇒ Shape the Future Together Let’s reimagine the role of architects in the future—for progress.
