Miller Hull is proud to support #FixTheBricks, a statewide campaign to make Washington’s unreinforced masonry buildings (URMs) safer. Across Washington, thousands of URMs remain at high risk in the event of an earthquake, putting lives, local businesses, and historic community assets at risk. House Bill 1810 is a critical step toward resilience, funding a statewide URM inventory and studying financial tools to make seismic retrofits more accessible for building owners. Supporting this bill helps protect public safety, preserve cultural history, and reduce embodied carbon by enabling reuse rather than demolition. Populus Seattle was recently featured as Galerie Magazine’s Hotel of the Week. "In Seattle, the narrative shifts from new construction to careful restoration, rooting the hotel in an early-20th-century factory that once manufactured plumbing parts. The Miller Hull Partnership, Curioso, and Site Workshop all joined forces to reimagine the dormant building, revealing its industrial character while adapting it for contemporary use.” Thank you, Galerie, for the feature! Our Kennedy Library Renovation at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo is complete, reopening just in time for the school year. We worked closely with our client and HENSEL PHELPS to reimagine this beloved campus landmark, enhancing accessibility, creating brighter and more open student spaces, and implementing energy-efficient upgrades. “Danielle Page Buttacavoli, an architect and planner for Miller Hull, emphasized the use of glazing, or glass windows, throughout the building. The original glass windows in the Kennedy Library were from the 1970s, Buttacavoli said, and provided no insulation which caused excessive heat and chill depending on the temperature outside. Now, after replacing the windows, installing new LED light fixtures as well as adding new cooling and heating systems, the team was able to reduce energy costs by 30%, according to Buttacavoli. Buttacavoli said the project was a collaborative effort, with students as the top priority.” – The San Luis Obispo Tribune This collaborative effort ensures the Kennedy Library will continue to serve as a vibrant hub for study, connection, and campus life for decades to come. Congratulations to our client and the entire project team on this achievement!
