Nearly 20 years ago, The Tolly Group validated one of the earliest examples of what would become #DaaS. In 2005, our independent testing confirmed that Citrix Presentation Server delivered faster response times and better network efficiency than Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services — even over 56K dial-up. Two decades later, The Tolly Group continues to set the standard for independent, data-driven performance validation that helps technology leaders prove their innovation in measurable terms. “Throwback Thursday” - nearly 20 years ago, in December 2005, The Tolly Group published a groundbreaking lab test commissioned by #Citrix. Some years before the term “Desktop as a Service (DaaS)” came into existence, Citrix Presentation Server was delivering that functionality and The Tolly Group tests were proving it. Our Tolly Group tests illustrated that the Citrix Presentation server delivered better response times and was more network efficient than the Terminal Services that came with Windows Server 2003. What is interesting is that, even then, the Citrix “DaaS” protocol was so efficient that it could deliver application services such running a PowerPoint presentation, remote printing, and even file transfer even when running over 56Kbit/s dial-up connections and low speed, 1.5Mbps down/256Kbps up DSL connections. In fact, for that test, the fastest connection tested was a full-duplex 1.544Mbps (T1) leased line. As link speeds increased over the years and protocols and products were further developed, #DaaS became capable of delivering virtually all application types at very fast speeds.
