On World Humanitarian Day, 19 August, we honour the courage and dedication of humanitarian workers; a vital lifeline for over 300 million people facing conflict, disaster, and displacement.  Yet, humanitarian action is under threat. Funding is drying up. In 2025, nearly 190 million people across 72 countries urgently need life-saving assistance. The numbers in the Global Trends: Forced Displacement report reveal a human tragedy. At the end of 2024, 123.2 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations and events seriously disturbing public order.
