Forests are more than just trees. They are unsung #ClimateAction heroes. Up to 13 billion tonnes of carbon is stored in their trees and soil. “We are going through a very profound change in the world, and it goes to the core of the value of multilateralism.” Volker Türk, the UN’s High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the risks posed by direct attacks against international institutions and systems. “If the multipolar world does not have rules or guardrails, it’s chaos, it’s unpredictability, it’s violence,” he warns, stressing: “We cannot afford this.”

There are more than 7,000 languages spoken worldwide, yet only about 350 are used in schools. This means millions of children are being taught in a language they don’t fully understand — making it more difficult for them to learn, express themselves, and reach their full potential. “Global solidarity and solutions are needed more than ever.” Speaking at the Security Council this week, António Guterres stressed that global challenges such as conflicts, the climate crisis and growing inequalities require multilateral solutions. The Secretary-General urged countries to strengthen and update global problem-solving mechanisms to ensure they are fit for purpose, people and peace.
