Women make up 60% of Kenya’s agricultural workforce, but limited access to credit and training continues to hold their businesses back. Through our partnership with Absa Bank Kenya under the SHE Proposition, we’re closing these gaps by equipping women dairy farmers with the financial and business skills they need to expand and sustain their enterprises. By learning to keep and use farm records, these women are gaining access to financing, making data-driven decisions, and planning for the future with confidence. This initiative is part of our broader mission to ensure one million #WomenEntrepreneurs in Kenya and beyond can access the opportunities, capital, and knowledge they need to thrive.

Across 34 countries, our Global Network is helping 189 million women access the financial tools they need to grow and thrive. In 2024, Network members made real progress with new products and new partnerships: 1. Co-created new #FinancialServices for women, from savings tools to digital credit options. 2. Shared solutions and lessons through regional workshops on topics like data protection and digital inclusion. 3. Strengthened gender-inclusive business models that are helping more #WomenEntrepreneurs access loans, insurance, and training. Each connection, each exchange, each new service brings us closer to a world where women have equal access to opportunity. Women’s digital financial journeys are starkly different from those of men: their learning curve is steeper, and confidence-building takes time and consistency. For women who earn small incomes or receive monthly lump sums to manage household expenses, cash offers a sense of control and security. For these women to become active UPI users, payments apps must include safety and control features that build trust and confidence. Enter Spice Money's Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI): preloaded #DigitalWallets that enable online purchases, bill payments, and peer-to-peer transfers. The results are encouraging. In-person onboarding and the assurance of safety make women more confident using digital tools: 90% said they intended to use the app weekly, and 63% of the onboarded users became active users. At our recent #FinancialInclusion Forum in South Africa, Aria Widyanto, Chief Risk and Sustainability Officer at Amartha Financial, spoke to us about one of the central themes of the Forum: digital payments.
