🪵Does burning wood lead to more forests and help the climate?🌳 In a new Nature paper, WRI and Yale researchers show such claims rely on flawed accounting, misinterpret underlying studies, and use flawed models that presume the results. 🗒️Read the papers👉 https://rdcu.be/eNkXX, 💻Join a webinar tomorrow at 9:30 AM EST👉 https://bit.ly/47iinJy

#WRIDigest is out! This week, read about: 🪨Critical minerals: what you should know 🦜Could the Tropical Forest Forever Facility be a potential breakthrough for nature conservation? ⛳️Ahead of #COP30: How do new national climate plans stack up? #climate #nature #conservation #TFFF #forest #deforestation #restoration #criticalminerals #rareearth #minerals #mining #climateaction #NDC #climatenewsletter

Demand for critical minerals is surging. But can we meet demand in a way that's responsible and equitable? #WRIExplains: Critical Minerals 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8iShNKA The world is racing to increase supplies of lithium, cobalt, copper and other "critical minerals" that are building blocks of modern technology. Not only are these minerals used in industries like defense, healthcare and electronics, but they are also key to producing the clean energy technologies that are increasingly powering our lives. Yet critical minerals present an environmental and social conundrum. While necessary in the fight against climate change, mining and processing of these minerals can drive greenhouse gas emissions, pollute the environment and bring risks to nearby communities. Mining and production are also concentrated in a small handful of countries, and surging demand is adding to geopolitical tensions — from trade disputes to global debates over the prospect of deep-sea mining. #DeepSeaMining #RareEarthElements #CriticalMinerals #Sustainability

World Resources Institute reposted this As the EU prepares to define its next Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), or climate plan, the coming weeks will be pivotal for Europe’s climate and economic future. This decision goes far beyond climate ambition; it’s about shaping Europe’s strategy for growth, resilience, and competitiveness in a decarbonizing global economy. As the Environment Council meets on 4 November to outline the NDC contours, these choices will define the EU’s credibility and influence heading into COP30. 💡To make the case for bold action, we’re turning to real-world evidence and inspiration. Across Europe and globally, key transition milestones are already proving that climate policy delivers innovation, investment, and tangible benefits. In a short series, we’ll spotlight practical examples showing that climate ambition strengthens economies and communities alike. Today, we zoom in on green jobs. The EU's biggest climate transition success stories aren't only about emissions — they're about creating opportunity! 📈 The growth of green employment across Europe is undeniable. Between 2000 and 2022, the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors alone created over 2 million new full-time jobs. This powers the economy while protecting the planet. Swipe to see the positive energy of Europe's green transition and why ambition pays off 🌍 #GreenJobs #EUeconomy #RenewableEnergy #GreenTransition #EUNDC #EU2040 WRI Climate Sources: Eurostat and European Environment Agency - State of Environment 2025

2025 is a pivotal year for climate action🌍 Countries representing nearly 70% of global emissions have yet to submit their #NDCs and are expected to do so by #COP30 this November. But the current NDCs do give us an idea of where progress is headed. Progress risks falling short when ambition is uneven: seven of the world’s largest emitters have submitted new NDCs, while other high emitters only announced top-line targets. WRI Climate’s latest analysis highlights key trends and shows how much new NDCs can close the emissions gap. 📖 Read the full analysis: https://lnkd.in/eCrqZNAw

💡Using an innovation, the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) aims to fund tropical forest countries as long as they preserve their forests. But how will it work? From using both private and public funds to allocating direct payments to Indigenous peoples, TFFF has several strategies.
