  • Did you know bananas and coffee plants were once grown in #Versailles’s kitchen gardens? In the 17th century, gardener and agronomist Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinie’s innovative techniques enabled Potager du Roi to flourish. Today, WMF is continuing this tradition of experimentation and innovation. Discover how our French affiliate is helping revive these techniques to weather a changing #climate: https://lnkd.in/esfrGA_b +++++ World Monuments Fund's work at Potager du Roi has been made possible, in part, by support from the Gerard B. Lambert Foundation, The Robert W. Wilson Charitable Trust, American Express, and Tianaderrah Foundation / Nellie and Robert Gipson.

  • On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we celebrate the history and culture that Indigenous communities bring to our shared heritage. • Approximately one in six heritage sites worldwide face climate-related threats, including increasingly intense natural disasters. This year’s United Nations #InternationalDayforDisasterRiskReduction asks: what if we proactively worked to make heritage sites more resilient, instead of waiting for disaster to strike? Through our crisis response work, WMF supports recovery at damaged cultural heritage sites and surrounding communities. After a series of powerful earthquakes struck Syria and Türkiye in February 2023, WMF mobilized to restore Antakya’s collapsed city center in partnership with local religious communities, while bringing together professionals to strengthen post-earthquake response for cultural heritage sites. From emergency stabilization to long-term restoration, learn more about our post-crisis efforts: https://lnkd.in/exxwTgf3 ++++++ World Monuments Fund’s work at Antakya Earthquake Heritage Sites has been made possible, in part, by the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) and the U.S. Mission to Türkiye. World Monuments Fund’s Crisis Response Program has been supported, in part, by the Donald A. Pels Charitable Trust, ALIPH - International alliance for the protection of heritage, the Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine Kaye Foundation, Denise Gwyn Ferguson, and other generous donors.

  • Holding 169 baroque terracotta masterpieces within its walls, Portugal’s Alcobaça Monastery was the perfect setting for the 1st International Conference on Terracotta Sculpture! An initiative led by the director of Alcobaça Monastery and the Museums and Monuments of Portugal this symposium explored ways to preserve the historic sculptures. Experts from World Monuments Fund, Musée du Louvre, National Gallery of Art, Rijksmuseum, and other esteemed institutions examined the sculptures' historical and artistic influences and exchanged knowledge concerning their future conservation. As part of the conference, WMF in Portugal Executive Director Teresa Veiga Macedo spotlit our engagement at the UNESCO World Heritage site Alcobaça Monastery, whose extraordinary sculptures are at risk due to the changing #climate. See how WMF is supporting the future preservation of the Monastery’s iconic sculptures as a part of our 2025 #WorldMonumentsWatch: https://lnkd.in/eAUK_zi6

  • Celebrating 100 years of the Palace Museum in Beijing's Forbidden City 🎉 One of the most visited museums in the world, the Palace Museum spans 980 buildings with a collection of over 1.9 million pieces of art. For the last 25 years, WMF and the Palace Museum have partnered to preserve the site’s extraordinary legacy. The recent restoration and reopening of the 18th-century Qianlong Garden’s first and second courtyard, along with a new exhibition, are proof that cross-cultural teamwork can achieve lasting impact.   We look forward to many more years of safeguarding heritage together! 📸 courtesy of Palace Museum. #Beijing #China #ForbiddenCity #PalaceMuseum #CulturalHeritage #Conservation  +++++  World Monuments Fund’s work at Qianlong Garden is supported, in part, by The Robert W. • Quelle soirée! ✨ World Monuments Fund’s 60th anniversary hit a high note with Friday's gala at Château de Versailles! Honoring Versailles’ cultural and horticultural feats, this monumental event spotlit WMF’s preservation across Domaine du Trianon, Marie Antoinette’s beloved hamlet on the chateau’s grounds. Showcasing the impact of #culturalheritage conservation work, we even brought the Théâtre de la Reine – extensively restored with the support of WMF – to life with an once-in-a-lifetime concert. Thank you to our Gala Committee of Ellie Peugeot, Renaud de Lesquen, Dena Kaye, and artistic advisor Zoë de Givenchy for their visionary leadership on this magical evening. And to our global community and partners, including Château de Versailles, Fondation Les Arts Florissants - William Christie, Carlotta de Guitaut, Château Margaux, Groupe Cyril Lignac, Cognac Ragnaud Sabourin, Diptyque, Fondation Louis Roederer, K2, Mellerio, Nixima Olio Extra Vergine di Olivia, MIONETTO S.P.A., Tatiana de Nicolay, Thierry Boutemy, Volzhenka, a heartfelt merci. Here’s to the next 60 years of safeguarding heritage! 📸 courtesy of David Atlan.

  • We’re marking Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, at Timișoara, Romania’s Fabric Synagogue. Once vital to the city’s Jewish community, this grand, turn-of-the-century synagogue designed by Hungarian architect Lipót Baumhorn now sits empty after decades of disuse. Through World Monuments Fund’s Jewish Heritage Program, we’re partnering with local stakeholders to breathe life back into this community space, transforming the synagogue into a cultural hub and reinvigorating the memory of Timișoara’s Jewish heritage.
