First day at HE Connect in Leeds - was a win ☺️ Steven Pemberton gave a humorous yet thought-provoking presentation on how AI, for now, functions as a "stochastic parrot", and he walked us through two distinct methods AI is learning. Alistair delivered a heartfelt talk on mental health and wellbeing, making solid points about the importance of not "building on land you don't own"—a metaphor for how much we invest in social media platforms. Morten Elvang discussed the evolving role of strategy, comparing it to a wheel rather than a compass. He emphasized the need to constantly re-strategize in response to new developments, which are happening more frequently. 💡 "The future belongs to those who can best adapt to and thrive on the unexpected." Emma Horrell shared insights on the challenges of teaching and implementing content design at scale, especially when addressing multiple audiences. She explored creative ways to motivate behavioral change, including "greatest hits," content bingo, and interactive sessions like lunch-and-learns and bite-sized online training. Tom Jackson and Jack Neena highlighted how to differentiate your online presence, noting that 50% of students choose where to study based solely on a website.
