Aerie by AEO, Inc. just became the latest brand to take a stand against AI in its advertising. The company pledged to stay "100% real" and never use AI to create images of people or bodies in its campaigns. It's a follow-up to the brand’s 2014 #AerieReal campaign, in which it vowed to stop retouching people and bodies in its creative work. Aerie will also require the same of its partners and promises to keep humans behind the camera, too. The brand follows in the footsteps of Dove, which made a similar pledge last year, and other advertisers that are starting to keep the tech at arm's length. Unwanted attention from AI bots is starting to cost publishers serious money. The AI scrapers are not only stealing our content, they are freeloading on websites eating up hosting costs and slowing them down for real users. Press Gazette's Charlotte Tobitt spoke to the CEO at the publisher of Trusted Reviews Chris Dicker to find out how serious the issue of website scraping from the likes of ChatGPT has become for his site and other publishers. The actual traffic resulting from all this attention is tiny, Dicker says, meaning the value exchange is non-existent.
