I’ve already said it, but it’s still happening and worth saying again. AI is making most teams’ content worse, not better… and nobody wants to admit this. The smart move is to hit pause. Why? Because AI without strategy is just producing more. More generic output with no POV (what I call “whole-cloth AI”). More accuracy risks that wreck trust (fake quotes, made-up authors, misstated facts) Much better to take a step back and nail the fundamentals first. 1️⃣ Know your audience. What questions are they asking? Where are they shaping their opinions? What gaps aren’t being filled? 2️⃣ Build a heat-seeking message. Decide what your brand needs to be known for, and translate that into a clear, differentiated POV. This is where trust and credibility are won. 3️⃣ Map your content strategy. Define the formats, channels, and stories that meet your buyers where they are. Then, and only then, layer in AI. Use it to simplify, atomize, and scale what’s proven to work. When you get the fundamentals right, AI produces reach and impact. When you skip this step, AI just produces more problems.

Some of the best ideas don’t come from brainstorming. They come from being bored. As a strategist, I’ve learned that the harder I try to be creative, the less creative I become. Breakthrough ideas don’t always emerge in workshops; they often appear when I’m stuck on a plane with no Wi-Fi, or when I'm staring at the ceiling and doing nothing. Harvard research says boredom flips on the brain’s “default mode network” — basically the engine room for reflection and creativity. Yet most of us panic at silence and fill every gap with scrolling. Maybe the secret to better strategy (and better ideas) isn’t more input, more meetings, or more noise.
