About 4basebio

4basebio is at the forefront of one of the most transformative areas in biotechnology: Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT). Our mission is to enable the next generation of life-saving genetic medicines through the manufacture and supply of premium quality synthetic DNA, produced via a proprietary, enzymatic, cell-free process. Unlike traditional plasmid-based methods, our platform delivers greater safety, speed, and scalability, unlocking critical efficiencies for CGT innovators.

As a trusted CDMO partner to leading biotech and pharmaceutical companies, we empower breakthroughs in cell and gene therapy, mRNA vaccines, gene editing, and other advanced modalities. At 4basebio, you’ll be part of a company where cutting-edge science translates into real-world impact, transforming patient outcomes and shaping the future of medicine.

The Opportunity:

The Vice President of Business Development will drive the commercial growth of 4basebio across the UK/Europe, Middle East & Africa, and Asia-Pacific regions, with particular focus on EU/UK and APAC. This role is responsible for defining strategy, leading and mentoring a high-performing commercial team, and personally engaging in high-impact business development activities.

We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on leader to expand 4basebio’s presence in the cell and gene therapy (CGT) sector and promote adoption of our synthetic DNA technology and GMP CDMO capabilities. The VP will lead the team while actively identifying, qualifying, and closing new business opportunities and strengthening relationships with biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic partners.

This field-based role requires frequent client engagement, attendance at conferences, and international travel—both independently and alongside direct BD reports—within the assigned region, including periodic visits to our UK headquarters. Candidates must reside within EU/UK.

The VP will be instrumental in establishing 4basebio as the go-to synthetic DNA partner in a fast-growing, rapidly evolving market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a robust regional business development & sales strategy aligned to global corporate objectives.
  • Own revenue targets, growth metrics, pipeline management and sales quotas for the EMEA/APAC region.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing business development and commercial team, including direct reports and channel partners, while fostering strong collaboration across the global commercial organization.
  • Serve as a hands-on player-coach, actively engaging in major accounts and complex GMP contracts as needed, while providing leadership, mentorship, and strategic guidance to empower the business development team to grow, scale, and consistently achieve revenue and performance targets.
  • Build and deliver impactful presentations, collaborate with marketing and commercial stakeholders to craft compelling messaging and positioning, and provide strategic input on campaigns and regional events to ensure alignment with revenue objectives and measurable ROI.
  • Provide market intelligence by continuously monitoring trends across the cell and gene therapy and infectious disease sectors — including emerging therapeutic modalities, evolving pricing and business models, and the competitive landscape across both research-use-only (RUO) and CDMO markets.
  • Structure deals: lead contract negotiation, deal terms, pricing strategy, risk assessment, scope of services, KPIs and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with internal science/tech, operations, quality, regulatory, and product teams to ensure service offerings meet client needs and market demands.
  • Ensure CRM/process discipline: pipeline forecasting, sales operations, reporting to executive leadership (CCO/CEO/COO).
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, client forums and thought-leadership venues to raise brand visibility and generate leads.
  • Engage with senior decision-makers at biotech/pharma clients (VP/Director level, heads of manufacturing/operations, C-suite) to position the CDMO as a strategic partner.
  • Serve as a key member of the commercial leadership team, working collaboratively to define and optimize go-to-market models for RUO and CDMO offerings in the cell and gene therapy market.
  • Serve as a core member of the leadership team, working cross-functionally to drive process improvements and train teams to ensure effective adoption across the organization.
  • Identify, qualify, and close major new business opportunities across EU and APAC for RUO and GMP CDMO synthetic DNA services, including service contracts and strategic partnerships.
  • Travel frequently, both domestically and internationally, as needed to meet clients, visit partner sites, attend company headquarters, and participate in industry conferences.
  • You will foster a positive team culture, coaching capability, pipeline/forecast discipline, and performance accountability.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or equivalent; advanced degree (MS/PhD) or MBA preferred.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of commercial or business development experience in biotech or biopharma service companies (CDMO/CMO/CRO/Life Sciences), with a proven track record of closing multi-million-dollar contracts in the cell & gene therapy or advanced biologics space. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a CDMO environment is required with at least 5 years in a leadership or player coach role.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate high-performing commercial teams, driving them to consistently meet and exceed revenue and financial targets.
  • Established network of industry contacts (“rolodex”) and relationships with key decision-makers in biotech, pharma, and CDMO communities in the cell and gene therapy sector.
  • Experience selling both RUO and GMP-enabled services, understanding the differing sales cycles, regulatory considerations, and value propositions between research and clinical/commercial manufacturing.
  • Technical expertise in cell & gene therapy manufacturing workflows—including viral vectors, mRNA, plasmids, and synthetic DNA platforms—with fluency in GMP manufacturing, scale-up, process transfer, supply chain management, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), pipeline management, and sales forecasting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute commercial plans, forecast revenue, and operate in complex and evolving markets.
  • Strong negotiation, deal structuring, and contract management skills, with experience working closely with legal, regulatory, and QA teams.
  • High level of communication and relationship-building skills; comfortable interfacing with C-suite clients and internal senior leadership.
  • Comfortable working in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally 50- 75%.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep scientific knowledge of cell and gene therapy modalities, platforms, and technologies.
  • Strategic thinking and leadership skills; ability to mentor and guide high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong project management capabilities, with the ability to juggle multiple clients, programs, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Hands-on, “player-coach” approach: able to drive business personally while enabling team success.
  • Comfort working with cross-functional stakeholders in dynamic, evolving environments.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with a results-oriented mindset, capable of aligning teams around strategic objectives and financial goals.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify market opportunities, drive strategic initiatives, and optimize commercial performance.
