Building out metrics to show success
Now that we have our pipeline set up, how can we make sure it works well? How can we measure success? Metrics help us do this. They help us measure so that we can make improvements and be as efficient and accurate as possible. Galileo reminds us that we should measure everything and then figure out how to measure what we aren't. Why do we need to measure? We need to define success. We can't know if what we built worked if we don't define success. Success can be measured by metrics and executives like to know when we succeed. They want to know where their investments are paying off, and they want evidence that their systems are protected. Security is a business problem, and metrics help us translate technical language into business language. And finally, metrics feed into continuous improvement.
