- Wouldn't you want to know exactly what your customers are thinking? A well-crafted survey can get you that data but let me give you a warning, in order to get the right psychographic data, you need to ask the right questions. First, you need to look inward to identify the key features of your product or service. Thinking of about what needs you're serving out in the marketplace, what are the major problems that your product or service solves? Once you've identified this, then you can break out your offering into key features. For example, a medical device solves a specific health related issue, but this can be broken down into of use, portability, user interface and the ability to access the underlying data. Second, you need to look outward to identify the key features of your ideal customer. This can be their gender, their age and their location, as far as demographic data.
