- The three ways that we communicate at any given time are through the word choice, the words that we choose, the paralingual, and our body language. Let's talk about paralingual. First of all, what does it mean? I've never had a client be able to tell me, and I ask this all the time. Hey, what does that mean? It's simply vocal variety. It's using your voice as an instrument. And oftentimes, people think, well, this is just my voice and I don't have any instrumental quality to it. Of course you do. If you would do this as an example, I'd love for you to read a piece of copy from an employee handbook or from maybe some marketing materials that your company's prepared, or maybe a presentation you're about to give on sales, or quarterly reports, or projections, or something about your organization.
