ALM is important for so many reasons, but the core functions are to enable your organization to do governance, to set up a means of source control for your application development, and then strategic way to do maintenance for your applications. So some things to consider when doing this is do you have solution concepts in place at your organization? Is it understood by your makers? What is your environment strategy? Do you have one? Do you have a traditional kind of three environment strategy where you have a dev, a production, and a UAT?
