- [Instructor] Sometimes, when you have your first meeting with IT to explore what data you have available, you have almost no information at that point. Possibly some data dictionaries or schema, which can actually be very helpful. So make sure you're requesting those before the meeting. But the only meeting that you're certain to have before this one is the initial meeting with the project sponsor. If you are external, you might not have any direct access to the data yet. Perhaps you have an annual report, as we've discussed already, but that doesn't help you much with this meeting. So what do I do in this situation? I refer to an organizational chart. What, you ask? You might be a bit surprised. I've actually had good luck with this trick. I tried this for the first time when I was on a complex project at a regional cell phone provider, and there were many departments and many, many data sets involved in that analysis.
