- [Instructor] In supply chains, data is everywhere, but it doesn't always come in the same format. Some data is structured, like digital orders and inventory records, but a lot of it is unstructured, paper invoices, PDFs, emails, packing slips, and even handwritten documents. Managing all of that information manually slows things down and introduces errors. That's why supply chains rely on technologies like OCR, EDI, and APIs to capture, share, and process data more efficiently. Let's start with optical character recognition, or OCR. OCR is a tool that scans printed or handwritten documents and converts the text into machine-readable data. Modern OCR systems powered by AI can extract the key details like invoice numbers, supplier names, or delivery dates, and push that data directly into systems like ERP or WMS platforms.
