In order to make the transition, you must first take your monolithic application and break it down into smaller services. But this is by far the hardest task. Many companies start down this path, but fail to complete the migration. The process can be cumbersome, it can be complex. It can leave you with interim results that are worse off than where you were with your original monolithic application. Disheartened, many companies give up partway through the migration, but unfortunately, they often give up when their application has been partially decomposed, enough so that they start seeing some of the disadvantages of service architectures, but not enough where they start seeing the advantages.
