- Let's look at a more realistic example now, of a bloated sentence. I will provide you with an update by the end of the day. Now, that sounds reasonable enough, doesn't it? But, have a go at writing that more economically. How about this, I will update you by the end of the day. Let's look a little bit closer at that. The by the end of the day reference is also a bit long-winded, because it implies simply today, doesn't it? If you provide the update by the end of the day, it also means you will provide that sometime today. So maybe, end of the day might sound a bit more revocative to you, in that case you could keep it, or maybe you like the elegant rhythm of that longer sentence, it's okay, then you can keep it. All I'm showing you is that when you zoom in to certain kinds of expressions, you can find opportunities for cutting back, that you wouldn't notice otherwise.
