📣 DesignMatters: Nurturing Inclusive and Innovative Design Research conference calling for participation!   The conference will be held in presence at Sapienza Università di Roma Sapienza University of Rome, as well as online, on 13 October 2025, 10:00-18:30 CET. DesignMatters is an Erasmus+ project developed in partnership with Cumulus, with the goal of promoting inclusion and diversity in doctoral education in design, by developing shared methods and standards for PhD programs across Europe. Through fostering collaboration among academia, civil society, and local communities, the initiative seeks to bridge academic research with real-world needs. The event will feature four expert keynote speakers and a roundtable with civil society actors, as well as a presentation of the Erasmus+ project itself. Studying internationally in Göttingen: From October 6 to October 10, 2025, 26 students from nine European universities participated in the on-site week of the ENLIGHT Blended Intensive Learning (BIP) programme "Behavioral Approaches to Sustainability Challenges" organised by Prof. Dr. Claudia Keser (Chair of Microeconomics: https://lnkd.in/eagciM7D) and her team. Through lectures, case studies, group work, and participation in economic experiments, they learned about cooperation, trust, business ethics, dishonesty, corruption, and corporate social responsibility, always linked to the overall topic of sustainability challenges. In the coming weeks, during the virtual phase of the programme, they will work in international teams on group projects, applying and deepening their acquired knowledge. Last week, the Résidence de France in Stockholm hosted the #EvadelaGardie reception, jointly organized by Institut français de Suède and the Institut suédois in Paris. 🎨🤝🔬 We had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing several laureates from both institutes’ cultural and scientific mobility programmes between France and Sweden — inspiring exchanges that highlight the creative and dynamic ties between both countries. International Open Access Week 🌍 Open Access means free, immediate, online access to research, along with the right for anyone to read, share, and build upon it. It enables wider collaboration and supports the exchange of knowledge between researchers, educators, practitioners and communities around the world. This week is International Open Access Week #OAweek, with the theme 'Who Owns Our Knowledge?'. It invites reflection on how research is created and shared, whose voices are represented, and how communities can play a greater role in shaping and benefiting from the knowledge they produce. For JOEE, Open Access supports our aim of connecting research and practice in outdoor and environmental education. Universal access to research continues to be a challenge, with research innovation sitting behind a paywall for many. I recently spoke with Liaison Librarian Rebecca Shead from The University of Notre Dame Australia about my experiences publishing my PhD work and the benefits of Open Access publishing (https://lnkd.in/gEwJPtbJ). Benefits include increased visibility and citations for authors, wider readership and collaboration opportunities, and greater societal impact through public access to research. With more and more institutional Read and Publish agreements being signed each year (e.g., recent agreements in Japan, United States, France, and Malaysia), opportunities for Open Access publishing for authors continues to grow. Have some research that might be a good fit for Open Access publishing at the Journal of Outdoor and Environmental Education? Check with your institutional library team to see if there is an agreement in place.

As editors of an emergent higher education journal, we’ve been reflecting on how journals can move beyond traditional structures to make room for different ways of knowing. Too often, research grounded in Indigenous methodologies is reshaped to fit Western publishing expectations. Our roundtable explores what might happen if we allowed both Indigenous and Western traditions to stand side by side — not in competition, but in relationship. Drawing on creative arts research, we’re exploring an artefact + exegesis model: a way of presenting research that combines creative or practice-based work with reflective writing. We hope this approach can help: 🌿 recognise Indigenous and Western epistemologies as equally valuable, 🌿 reshape how we understand “quality” in scholarly publishing, and 🌿 encourage shared, respectful review processes that are grounded in reciprocity.
