The Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP) will be launched soon at COP30 🔄🌳! The #CircularEconomy is an important driver for resolving issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, resource scarcity and waste. The Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP) is a voluntary framework that aims to address key accountability and policy gaps currently impeding the scaling of circularity globally. Fantastic to be part of this important development as part of their Independent Scientific Advisory Committee. Also very exciting to see that some of the frameworks from our earlier research (#slow, #close, #narrow, #regenerate - project Circular X, Conny Bakker, Ingrid de Pauw, Bram van der Grinten, Jan Konietzko) will be featured here as well. The new protocol is a great team effort with voices from business, academia, governments etc. Follow WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development for more updates!

Ever picked up a product or scrolled online thinking: "Is this really sustainable, or am I being tricked?" You’re not alone. Green claims are everywhere, from coffee cups and laptops to cleaning products and IT services. Sometimes it feels like you need a PhD in eco-speak just to shop responsibly. Exciting developments are underway in Denmark and the EU to address this issue and ensure the credibility of green claims. Starting September 2026, the EU's Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT) Directive will bring about significant changes: - Companies must provide evidence to support their eco-friendly claims. - Independent third-party verification will become mandatory for increased credibility. - Merely buying carbon offsets or using vague statements will no longer suffice. - It will be illegal to make unverified green claims, aiming to combat greenwashing effectively. In essence, these regulations aim to eradicate greenwashing and promote transparent and trustworthy sustainability claims. Why does this matter? For all consumers, including dentists and AI professionals, these rules ensure that labels can be trusted, enabling informed decisions that benefit the planet. Additionally, for companies, aligning green marketing with reality, substantiated by evidence, is crucial. A helpful tip: Seek out recognized labels like Nordic Swan, EU Ecolabel, or ISO certifications for genuine sustainability assurance. As someone passionate about sustainability and data, I find this shift inspiring. It’s a reminder that credible data and clear communication are key to driving real impact - not just good marketing. 🔗 What do you think - will stricter green labeling rules help build more trust in sustainability claims? #Sustainability #Greenwashing #EcoFriendly #ClimateAction #GreenBusiness #CircularEconomy #CleanTech #EcoInnovation #GreenTech #SustainableDevelopment #Innovation #Technology #Leadership #Business #Entrepreneurship #Startups

Amidst the rapid changes taking place around the world, sustainability has become an ethical and operational imperative. It's not enough to just be digital; we must be climate-conscious. This is the spirit behind INCO's Digital Green Certification. It's not just a certification, it's a radical vision that integrates environmental awareness into the core of digital infrastructure. Our goal is to color our digital world green, ensuring that every online interaction contributes to reducing our carbon footprint. By transitioning to a "digital green" strategy, organizations are not just innovating but driving global change, accelerating our collective journey toward a zero-emission future. #greendigitalcert2025 #sustainability #GreenTech

Dynamic Stakeholder Interactions in a Circular Economy Dynamic Stakeholder Interactions in a CE was presented on September 24 at the 4th International Conference on Responsible Consumption and Production, organized by EURECA-PRO. This presentation examines the transition from a traditional linear economy to a circular economy, highlighting the critical importance of engaging diverse stakeholders to enable systemic change. It identifies the principal actors within circular economy systems, including governmental bodies, manufacturers, higher education institutions, consumers, and a range of organisations operating across the value chain. To investigate and optimise stakeholder behaviours and resource efficiency, the authors employ Systems Engineering and System Dynamics methodologies. These approaches provide a means of modelling complex interactions and feedback mechanisms among stakeholders, as demonstrated in the accompanying causal loop diagram. The analysis identifies several key challenges, notably the need to understand and manage network dynamics, systemic complexity, and the interconnectedness of actors. Achieving effective stakeholder engagement requires addressing barriers linked to market dynamics and social factors. This entails the early integration of stakeholders, the cultivation of trust, the utilisation of digital technologies, and the promotion of continuous learning. The study concludes that a successful transition to a circular economy depends upon collaborative adaptive governance, the co-evolution of stakeholder roles, and multi-actor collaboration. Such efforts are best guided by established frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 10 R-strategies (reduce, reuse, recycle, etc.). Many thanks to the co-authors and collaborators Ali Asghar Bataleblu, Erwin Rauch, Lars Jakobs and Asja Emer Free University of Bozen-Bolzano Universidad del Salvador

🌍 Bridging Circular Economy & Social Innovation for Sustainable Development A new peer-reviewed study explores, for the first time, the theoretical relationship between Circular Economy (CE) and Social Innovation (SI) through the lens of sustainable development. 🔑 Key Insights: Dual Approach Needed: CE extends resource lifecycles and reduces environmental impacts, while SI ensures inclusivity, collaboration, and social equity in systemic transitions. Together, they create a more resilient framework for sustainability. Research Gap Identified: Despite the rapid growth of publications (over 1,180 documents analyzed, with 99 deeply reviewed), there is still no unified framework linking CE and SI from a sustainable development perspective. Bibliometric Trends: Studies on CE, SI, and SDGs have accelerated since 2020, reflecting global urgency. Publications on “sustainability” rose from 0 in 2014 to 196 in 2023; CE-focused papers grew to 36 in 2023. Thematic Clusters: Sustainable Social Innovation (community participation, governance, resilience) Corporate Circular Economy (eco-innovation, digital transformation, CSR) Innovation in Sustainable Business Models (design, entrepreneurship, circular SMEs) Circular Resource Management (waste hierarchy, food systems, recycling efficiency) Critical Risks: Overemphasis on technocratic CE approaches can widen inequalities, while SI faces governance and resource barriers. Both need integrated frameworks to avoid fragmented, siloed efforts. Proposed Framework: The authors suggest a CE-SI integration model emphasizing governance, actor collaboration, design, and the waste hierarchy as levers for systemic change. 📌 Why it matters: Without connecting technological innovation (CE) with social participation (SI), sustainability risks becoming an elitist or purely technical project. Real progress requires inclusive, community-driven, and equitable pathways. #CircularEconomy #SocialInnovation #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Governance #SDGs
