🇨🇱 How is the situation of #OER in Chile? Werner Westermann from the Library of National Congress of Chile observes that Chile currently lacks sustained governmental commitment to open education. While promising initiatives such as the Open University of Recoleta have been discontinued, other countries in the region, notably Brazil and Uruguay demonstrate how consistent public support can strengthen open education at a systemic level. 🌐 In the series “the cOERrespondents” we share short glimpses that together form a mosaic of how diverse the wOERld of open education really is. 🎬 Discover all perspectives from the cOERrespondents: https://lnkd.in/e7anKnFG 🌍 Join us at #OERcampglobal2025, connect worldwide, and shape the future of education! In Latin America and the Caribbean, peer learning is also driving #education innovation. At #GPEKIX, IDRC’s joint endeavour with the Global Partnership for Education, we’re proud to support regional collaboration that strengthens education systems and fosters knowledge sharing. With support from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States OECS and facilitated by the KIX LAC Hub - Latin America and the Caribbean, education leaders from Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Antigua and Barbuda visited Guyana to learn about its Education Management Information System (EMIS). Participants explored Guyana’s integrated data system, exchanged challenges and solutions, and co-developed ideas to strengthen EMIS across the region — showcasing how strategic planning, political support, and peer exchange can accelerate reform. With support from #GPEKIX, knowledge is crossing borders and transforming futures. 🧭 NEUEYT Project: EMPOWERING THE “INVISIBLE YOUTH” THROUGH DIGITAL PARTICIPATION The NEUEYT Project (Novel Framework for democratic participation and Engagement of Underrepresented European Youngsters) has developed an innovative model to enhance civic engagement among underrepresented young Europeans, leveraging digitalization as a bridge for participation. Involving partners from Italy, Greece, Cyprus, North Macedonia, France, and Norway, the consortium combined public institutions and NGOs to identify and test 8 exemplary e-democracy initiatives across Europe. These pilots actively connected young citizens with policy makers, creating new forms of dialogue and engagement. The project culminated in the NEUEYT Framework, a strategic document containing recommendations and guidelines to inspire future policies and youth participation strategies. 📘 Discover the full Framework here: https://lnkd.in/eYdqUs_H

This #AfricaYouthDay, I’m thinking about my visit to Nal’uxolo Primary School in Cape Town earlier this year. I spent the afternoon with an inspiring group of students and educators, and the visit put into focus what can happen when governments, educators, and local partners prioritize early learning. By 2050, one in three of the world’s young people will live in Africa. How one-third of the world's youth learn and grow will have an enormous influence on the future of work and economies globally. Programs like the ones at Nal’uxolo build strong foundations in essential reading and math skills—fueling future economic growth by developing the talent needed for jobs in critical sectors like STEM. Investing now in improving student reading and math outcomes in the early grades will drive tomorrow's economic opportunity and build the skills and talent needed to power the continent’s next chapter. As I get ready to return to South Africa to see how local leadership and innovation helping create a more resilient and equitable future for the continent, I’m reminded of the energy I felt in the classrooms and the smiles I saw on the students that day in February.
