Empowering Education through Responsible AI: MMSU and PIDS Advance Open Access and Ethical Innovation Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) (MMSU) is taking bold steps to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly in education governance—unveiling a comprehensive policy manual on AI use and showcasing research-led digital innovations during the forum “Leveraging Education Policies and Governance through Artificial Intelligence” held on September 16, 2025, at MMSU in Batac, Ilocos Norte. The event, co-organized with the Philippine Institute for Development Studies through its open-access knowledge platform, the Socioeconomic Research Portal for the Philippines (SERP-P), was part of the national celebration of the Development Policy Research Month. The collaboration highlights how open-access research and knowledge partnerships can guide ethical AI practices and strengthen evidence-based policymaking in education. SERP-P Project Manager and Senior Research Specialist Ezekiel Nicomedes presented the SERP-P open-access platform to MMSU researchers and faculty, emphasizing the importance of accessible and transparent knowledge-sharing in the age of AI. Tajikistan launches “Project Soro” — the country’s first national initiative to integrate artificial intelligence into education, in partnership with UNICEF and zypl.ai The Artificial Intelligence Council of Tajikistan under the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, UNICEF in Tajikistan, and zypl.ai have signed a Letter of Intent to launch “Project Soro” — Artificial Intelligence for Inclusive Education in Tajikistan. The project marks the first large-scale initiative in the region to systematically integrate AI into a national education system, aiming to make digital learning accessible to every student and to help young people gain the skills of the future. "The challenge facing us all today is to ensure that we design educational tools that maximise the positive benefits of big data and artificial intelligence, while preserving privacy, providing protections from harm, and empowering children to exercise their rights. AI in Action: Revolutionizing Primary Education in Bangladesh with AI 🌟 In Bangladesh, where primary schools face resource constraints and large classrooms, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) conducted a groundbreaking study to explore how AI can transform teaching and learning for millions of students. AI tools for personalized learning, adaptive content, chat bots for feedback, and automated curriculum support like generating quizzes, lesson plans, and multimedia resources in Bangla. This helps with assessments, tracking student performance, and aiding special needs education. Implementation steps will start with comprehensive training programs and workshops to build teacher skills. Invest in infrastructure upgrades like reliable internet and devices across 513 upazilas. Develop culturally adapted AI tools integrated into the national curriculum. Establish policies for data privacy and ethics based on UNESCO frameworks. Engage stakeholders including parents and policymakers for sustainable rollout. Key Outcomes: A survey of 1,253 primary teachers revealed 93.7% agree AI benefits education, with 64.9% expressing positive sentiments in NLP analysis. Post-training, 95% of participants showed improved perceptions and higher competency scores. AI was seen as highly receptive for tasks like lesson planning (76.97%) and question creation (77.55%), potentially saving time on material preparation (42.83% of responses highlighted this). This points to enhanced efficiency and personalized learning in resource-limited settings. But study says, limited infrastructure like unreliable internet (affecting 74.9% of teachers), power outages, and lack of devices in rural areas. Teachers also grapple with knowledge gaps, data privacy concerns, ethical issues such as AI bias, and the need for Bangla-language tools, all while managing emotional tasks that require human touch. Happy to share that our abstract titled, “Generative AI, Gender Bias, and Higher Education: A Systematic Review of Risks and Pathways for Inclusion,” has been accepted for presentation at the SCOPUS indexed ASEAN Stakeholder Summit on Generative AI for Education 2025. The study synthesizes evidence from 2022–2025 to explore how generative AI tools like ChatGPT mirror or amplify gender bias in higher education, and highlights inclusive pathways for equitable adoption. UNESCO recognizes four initiatives promoting the responsible use of AI in education Four initiatives from Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, and the United Kingdom received the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education, supported by the Kingdom of Bahrain. Alongside the Prime Minister of Bahrain, Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, praised the impact of such initiatives in training hundreds of thousands of teachers and young people for a more informed use of artificial intelligence. UNESCO advocates for the ethical and responsible integration of AI in education Since 2018, UNESCO has made the ethics of artificial intelligence a priority, leading to the adoption by its Member States of the first international normative framework in this field. To support the integration of these technologies, which are already abundant in education, UNESCO published the first Guidance for Generative Artificial Intelligence in education and research in September 2023, as well as two AI competency frameworks for students and teachers in 2024, addressing both the opportunities and risks of AI and proposing, among other things, an age limit of 13 for the use of generative AI by students. Since 2024, UNESCO has organized training courses on its AI competency frameworks in more than 100 countries, reaching thousands of educators and decision-makers. The Organization has also directly supported 58 countries in developing frameworks, school curricula and certified training programs on digital and AI skills—with a clear goal: to develop young talent that is aware of the potential of AI, but also of its biases and limitations. Proud to be part of the landmark initiative of #AI Integration in teaching & learning in K-12 classrooms by Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), and being able to contribute to efforts that are shaping how #educators across #Pakistan understand and adopt AI responsibly in their classrooms. It’s inspiring to see Pakistan taking its first steps towards structured training programs for #AIliteracy and the integration of AI in #teachingandlearning processes. This is indeed the right move, starting with #teachertraining to build awareness about how generative AI works, its responsible and ethical use and how it can be effectively adopted in classrooms. Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Education Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to address some of the biggest challenges in education today, innovate teaching and learning practices, and accelerate progress towards SDG 4. However, rapid technological developments inevitably bring multiple risks and challenges, which have so far outpaced policy debates and regulatory frameworks. Even UNESCO's AI Competency framework for Education (Teachers and Students) is committed to supporting Member States to harness the potential of AI technologies for achieving the Education 2030 Agenda, while ensuring that its application in educational contexts is guided by the core principles of inclusion and equity. Those NGO's implementing education programs here is an opportunity of resources mobilisation and promote responsible use of AI in education.
