🌋 Volcanic hazards are finally gaining long overdue attention in global early warning conversations, a shift welcomed by Dr Charles Balagizi, coordinator of the Virunga Geohazards Supersite for GEO's Geohazard Supersites and Natural Laboratories (GSNL) initiative. In a new article, Dr Balagizi shares what this means for communities living under the constant threat of volcanoes like Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He describes the realities on the ground: limited monitoring infrastructure, scarce resources, and a need for stronger cooperation between local and international actors. Communities cannot wait. Turning global attention into concrete action must happen now.
