I’m truly thrilled to share that Benjamin Coriat and I will be speakers at the ACM International Conference on AI in Finance (ICAIF 2025) in Singapore this November! Together, we’ve developed a research project exploring how Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning can be applied to option strategies on volatile assets, with a particular focus on decentralized finance environments. We named it LOAF — Leveraging Opinion to Allocate Funds. So far, our results are promising, showing a yearly yield of 21% with a 1.4 Sharpe ratio when backtested between 2020 and 2024. We'll share our work as part of the workshop AI for Resilient & Responsible DeFi Dynamics (AI-R2D2), organized by Dr. Oshani Seneviratne. Presenting it at ICAIF'25 will be both an honor and an incredible opportunity to exchange ideas with researchers and professionals. The conversation there will undoubtedly play a key role in guiding our next steps. Wow, yesterday's VDSG meetup surpassed all expectations with around 120 attendees! Here are my key takeaways: Mara Weinblatt Ann-Sophie Brenk Dr. Marian Lux and Markus Stöhr delivered an extensive presentation on AI Factory Austria, the local chapter of the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking. Paul Tiwald from Mostly AI showed us how to approach synthetic data generation the right way. I had to cut off Q&A for both talks; otherwise, we'd still be there! :) What I found personally compelling: 🇪🇺 EU AI Sovereignty in action - The European HPC demonstrates Europe's serious commitment to AI independence and infrastructure. I mean actual €€€s 💻 Accessible GPU compute for innovators - Have a compelling use case? Just ask, and AI Factory Austria gives you access to GPU-enabled high-performance computing clusters across the EU. 🏢 Vienna's AI hub is coming - A local Co-Working/Incubator space dedicated to AI companies launches early next year ⚡ Synthetic data made simple – `pip install mostlyai[local]` and you can generate your first synthetic dataset in under 5 minutes. 🎙️ Yesterday, we interviewed Professor Rebecca Adler-Nissen at the launch of the new ECHOlab at Science and Technology Studies (STS) at DTU: “My key message today is that research and evidence-based studies of technologies and societies are key to help politicians and decision-makers,” says Rebekka, “To see they have a room for manoeuvring, that they can actually shape how we use technologies and what kind of technologies we develop” Rebekka Adler-Nissen was one of the four panelists invited to discuss what happens when new technologies are urgently needed, but publicly contested. Rebekka is also Director of CAISA – a new pioneering centre for AI. They advise authorities and businesses on how best to navigate the rapid development of AI technologies, and how to ensure that the rollout of artificial intelligence supports democracy, drives growth, and enhances digital self-determination. 🔬 About #ECHOlab: An observatory for human-centered engineering, the research here focuses on the need for new technologies, often publicly contested, as people with different values disagree on what counts as desirable technological futures. The lab will be central to mitigating polarisation, increase trust in scientists and research institutions, and mend fractured information environments. ECHOlab advances the understanding of technological challenges by combining qualitative, computational, and participatory methods to bridge science and democracy. Last month, two Health Services and Informatics Research (HSIR) team members, Rachel Pfafman and Xintong Lu, attended the international REDCapCon 2025 in Wisconsin. There, they stayed up to date on how AI is and will be incorporated into REDCap, a leading online data collection platform. They learned the value of designing data-collection tools that anticipate the needs of post-analysis, as well as methods for improving data quality through real-time validation and audit trails.
