Disasters threaten to steal away precious development gains and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Vulnerable countries disproportionately bear the brunt of losses from disasters, slowing – or even reversing – progress towards attaining the SDGs. They say change starts with one voice. The farmer 👩🏾🌾 teaching her daughter climate-smart farming, the youth building solar microgrids in remote villages 🛖, and cooperatives transforming subsistence into sustainable livelihoods 🌱. These are the stories that illuminate what SDG 1: "No Poverty" really means. For years, Germany 🇩🇪 has stood alongside African communities as a partner, helping to build capacity, strengthen institutions, and facilitate locally-led development. Germany’s “One World—No Hunger” initiative is one such example. It invests billions yearly in agriculture, nutrition, cash transfers, and building resilience among the poorest communities. Through KfW Development Bank, Germany has also helped both expand social protection and improve infrastructure. The Agence Parisienne du Climat is working to change that by combining digital innovation with strong community engagement. This pilot focuses on improving how vulnerable households are identified and supported.
