A comprehensive report on ‘Meat Alternatives" has been launched by the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC), which provides scientific insights on the fast-growing world of meat alternatives. This report offers policymakers a science-based roadmap for balancing climate commitments, public health, and food system resilience. Pleased to serve as 'Working Group' member (representing The Estonian Academy of Sciences) along with Prof. Bert Rima (Chair of the Working Group), Dr. Rosa Castro (Programme director) and other experts from the EU. Citizen science is consolidating as a transfromative paradigm for agricultural sustainability. In this project in Colombia, readings collected by 91 local monitors closely matched data from official weather stations—a statistically significant correlation that validates community-generated climate data. Andres Julían Rueda Quecho authors this piece from our member organization Fundación Natura. A strong network. Empowered producers. Smarter climate action. 🔥This summer’s wildfires and droughts were a stark reminder that farmers are already facing the very real impacts of the climate, nature, and pollution crises. Yet, the European Commission’s current proposal for the future of agriculture misses the mark. Instead of investing in nature protection, climate resilience, and sustainable food systems, it favours outdated and harmful farm payments, provides EU governments with excessive flexibility, and leaves farmers exposed to the impacts of the ongoing environmental crises 👎 The responsibility now lies with Ministers and the European Parliament to improve the proposal. Our key demands: 🪙 dedicated budgets for environmental and climate actions 🌱 policies that strengthen farmers’ resilience 🍽️ a full food systems approach that protects both people and the planet It’s time for EU policies to reflect the urgency we are already experiencing and to ensure Europe’s farmers and nature can thrive together. 🌍 “Transforming food systems is central to addressing both climate change and global food security.” At the #GIINImpactForum2025 in Berlin (7–9 October), the session “Complementary Capital Solutions for Food and Agriculture” will bring together global leaders in sustainable finance to explore how strategic collaboration can drive meaningful change in the sector. Distinguished leaders presenting at the session along with Michael van den Berg include Rebecca Mincy (Acumen Resilient Agriculture Fund (ARAF), Philippe Crete (Fondaction Asset Management), and Catherine Burns (The Nature Conservancy). Together, they will explore how innovative financing models, blended capital approaches, and cross-sector collaboration can drive transformative solutions, strengthen food systems, and ensure climate capital achieves meaningful, lasting outcomes. 🌾 Global food security depends on solutions that scale rapidly — this session will showcase strategies that not only mitigate climate risk but also empower smallholder farmers and build resilient, inclusive food systems across continents. 🔗 Register here: https://lnkd.in/eHBeuA42 #ImpactInvesting #ClimateAction #SustainableFinance #FoodSystems

More than a decade ago, the United Nations warned that global food production must double by 2050 to meet the demands of a rapidly growing population. Yet, challenges like climate change, crop pathogens, and pests, continue to threaten progress. To combat these challenges, I'm proud that we recently unveiled our new advanced plant growth chamber facilities at the University of Exeter in the UK. These state-of-the-art Argus controlled Conviron growth rooms allow researchers to simulate complex climate conditions — including wind and rain — to better understand and address the threats to global food security. It was an incredible event filled with energy, collaboration, and a shared commitment to advancing plant science. I'm delighted to have supported the University of Exeter and the groundbreaking research that will help shape a more resilient and sustainable future for agriculture. https://lnkd.in/ezgRKKu6

Regenerative agriculture is one of the key things which can save us. Here is a deep dive 10-minute must-read if you want to understand why.
Building a regenerative Agrifood System in Europe with Climate Farmers. Co-founder of Love Foundation, VCA NL & Hug Records. Obama Leader & BMW Responsible Leader. Part of CXC, Ted Countdown & Regenerators.
We need good storytelling and media coverage if we want to spread the word about regen ag outside of our bubble. Which is why I was delighted to give April Reese from Nature Magazine a longer interview on the rise of regenerative agriculture in Europe. Even better, she visited two of our Portuguese Climate Farmers, Herberto Brunk & Ruben Jorge, and the outcome is an amazing deep dive into their world. I can highly recommend checking out the article below. Fun fact I also did not know, Europe is the fastest-warming continent on our planet. If we do not speed up the transition to a regenerative food system, we will run into serious food security issues soon. Thanks April, for contributing by spreading the word!
