🧠 Behavioral scientists know that people overweight immediate costs and undervalue future benefits. In tourism, this bias means that guests often reject small-price upgrades or eco-options, even if the long-term benefits (lower footprint, better experience) are substantial. 💡 So, what can you do to increase demand for more responsible but more expensive options? Reframe the sustainable choices as immediate gains. Example: “Select our green shuttle - skip traffic and arrive sooner” 📘 You can read more about this and many other biases yjay biases that influence how guests respond to green messaging in the 2023 Behavioural Science for Sustainable Tourism (OECD) report. 🔗Link: https://lnkd.in/d2F4rb2x

What makes travelers choose sustainable homestays over conventional ones? A new research study by Prof. Angelin vilma George and Mr. Booshnam Dinakaran from Great Lakes Institute of Management unpacks this shift using the Push-Pull Mooring (PPM) model, revealing how environmental consciousness, social influence, and perceived value shape travelers’ decisions. Taking Airbnb as a case, the study identifies key psychological and social drivers behind sustainable consumption in tourism, offering timely insights for both researchers and industry practitioners. Proud moment as this paper gets published in the Social Responsibility Journal (Scopus 95 percentile, ABDC-B). Regenerative Tourism & Coastal Economies | Impact Conference 2025 Tourism is both a lifeline and a pressure point for the Mediterranean. At this year’s Hellenic Impact Investing Network Conference, I had the privilege to speak on Regenerative Tourism going beyond sustainability to ask “How can we create positive impact?” At Empiria Group regeneration starts with respect for place, culture, people, and the natural rhythm of our islands. We aim to revitalize ecosystems, empower communities, and celebrate identity working hand in hand with partners such as Cycladic Identity, Cyclades Preservation Fund (CPF) , Mexoxo, Desmos and many more, our aim is to contribute to the protection of the Cyclades’ heritage. Regenerative tourism is a shared responsibility. Our success is measured by the positive impact on communities and ecosystems, not just the number of hotels we build! #ImpactConference2025 #RegenerativeTourism #EmpiriaGroup #CycladicIdentity #Cyclades #PositiveImpact #Sustainability

In a webinar about “The Disruptive Effect of Climate Change: Sustainability, Innovation and Impact” members of the network explored how climate change is reshaping global tourism, not just as a threat but as a catalyst for innovation. Panelists highlight how rising temperatures, extreme weather, and shifting traveler expectations are disrupting traditional tourism models, prompting destinations to adopt smarter, more sustainable approaches. Innovations range from AI-powered forecasting and carbon tracking tools to regenerative travel design and climate-linked policy reforms. Dr Alexander Lennart Schmidt of the Hotelschool The Hague emphasized that climate change is forcing tourism to rethink its purpose, urging the industry to embrace regenerative models that prioritize community, ecology, and long-term resilience. He called for bold innovation and cross-sector collaboration, framing disruption as a chance to rebuild tourism around impact rather than volume. The conversation emphasizes that true transformation lies in rethinking value chains, empowering local communities, and embedding climate justice into tourism’s core, positioning the sector as a proactive force for global resilience. The future of tourism isn’t just about where we go—it’s about how we show up. Regenerative tourism means designing cultural experiences that protect ecosystems, uplift communities, and celebrate heritage—all at once. That starts with climate-conscious planning: reducing emissions, respecting local limits, and integrating sustainability into every decision. But it also requires putting communities at the centre—ensuring that tourism supports local livelihoods, traditions, and long-term resilience. At Forager Futures, we help cultural organizations and destinations design tourism models that connect the dots between climate, community, and culture. Because when sustainability and storytelling work together, the impact goes far beyond the visitor experience. #RegenerativeTourism #ClimateAndCulture #SustainableFutures

Tourism shouldn't just sustain a place—it should help it thrive. Regenerative tourism is about more than limiting harm. It’s about actively restoring the cultural, environmental, and social systems that make each destination unique. That work starts by putting culture at the centre—celebrating local stories, amplifying community voices, and building partnerships that turn visitors into participants in preservation and progress. At Forager International, we support communities in designing tourism strategies that do more than attract visitors. We help them create regenerative models where economic growth goes hand-in-hand with cultural resilience and sustainability. Because the future of tourism isn’t just greener—it’s more rooted, more reciprocal, and more human. #RegenerativeTourism #CulturalResilience #HeritageLeadership

Deepdive Session | MENA Regenerative Coastal Tourism Working Group As part of the MENA Oceans Summit 2025, this Deepdive will convene leading voices from the hospitality sector, allied marine and coastal industries, policymakers, and innovators to lay the foundation for a Working Group on Regenerative Coastal and Marine Tourism under the MENA Oceans Network. Coastal and marine tourism is a cornerstone of the MENA region’s blue economy, generating livelihoods, preserving cultural identity, and attracting global visitors. As the sector continues to grow, it also faces the important task of managing its impacts on fragile marine ecosystems, particularly in destinations already vulnerable to climate change, overextraction, and pollution. Participants will: 🔹 Co-develop Regenerative Ocean Health Protocols for the coastal and marine tourism sector 🔹 Identify case studies, best practices, and innovations to advance decarbonisation and resilience 🔹 Define marine sustainability metrics to guide impact and reduce pressure on water, food, and energy systems 🔹 Shape recommendations for the MENA Regenerative Blue Economies Outlook Report and the global Coastal Tourism Breakthroughs This dialogue aims to catalyse the transition towards a tourism industry that not only sustains MENA’s coasts, but regenerates them to secure benefits for communities, visitors, and ecosystems alike.
