Why Need-Based Assessment is the Heart of Real Development ?
Working across Maharashtra’s villages over the years, I’ve realised one simple truth — Development cannot be delivered; it has to be discovered with people.
A need-based assessment helps us do exactly that. It’s about pausing, listening, and understanding what communities truly need , before designing any program or intervention.
Need-based assessment is not a technical step; it’s a human process.
It helps us:
🌿 Identify real community priorities
🌿 Co-create locally relevant solutions
🌿 Build trust and ownership
🌿 Ensure sustainable and inclusive growth
True social impact begins when people are not just beneficiaries, but partners in change.

What does it take for one woman to turn a village’s hopes into action?
In Gunawad village of central Madhya Pradesh, Chanda Bhabhar did just that. From ensuring child immunization to strengthening local governance, her courage shows how rural women are shaping local systems and driving lasting change.
This #InternationalDayOfRuralWomen, we share her story as a reminder that transformation begins when women are trusted to lead and supported to act. Through her vision and persistence, Chanda turned collective aspirations into tangible change for her community.
At TRI we are development designers working to reimagine how rural systems function. Our aim is to connect people, institutions and ideas to create flourishing localities where participation and agency thrive. We work alongside countless changemakers like Chanda, co-designing pathways that make governance responsive and livelihoods resilient.
