In her latest blog, Clea Vazquez F.ISRM, Head of Risk Management, reminds us that true safety culture comes from 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨. It’s a great reminder that while October shines a light on safe work, the real impact happens in the choices we make all year round. 🔗 Read Clea’s reflections on National Safe Work Month 2025: https://lnkd.in/g7t9UviY #NationalSafeWorkMonth #WorkplaceSafety #SafetyCulture #BICConsolidated Safe Work Australia

Let's be honest: How often can we truly eliminate a core operational risk? The traditional Hierarchy of Controls puts elimination at the top, but as Crystal Danbury (CFIOSH) (Director of Group Safety at Sainsbury's) pointed out in our recent webinar, the reality on the ground is different. Most of a health and safety leader's work focuses on mitigation, and we rarely have open conversations about risk acceptance – even though it's embedded in the concept of 'reasonably practicable'. Crystal's frustration with this disconnect led her to develop a more dynamic framework: The 3 Strands of Safety, focused on Identifying, Understanding, and then Accepting, Mitigating, or Removing risk. It’s a modern approach that moves beyond the theoretical limitations of the old model. If you're looking for a framework that reflects how work actually gets done, this conversation is essential viewing. In workplaces across the region, one challenge echoes everywhere: 🗣️ “The system’s there, but it doesn’t reflect how we actually work” In this insightful feature, Alanna Ball, Principal Consultant at The Safety Team, explores how risk management must evolve—from being a compliance checklist to a human-focused framework that truly reflects real-world work. From recognising psychosocial risks to designing tools that make sense on the ground, Alanna shows how progress in safety starts with a simple truth: put people first. 👉 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eCj92ijp _ #WSHAsia #WorkplaceSafety #PeopleFirst #SafetyCulture #RiskManagement #OSHProfessionals #SafetyLeadership #HumanCentredDesign #TheSafetyTeam #emagazine #aug2025issue #awards #chemical #safety #onlinemagazine #wsh #osh #safety #oshfigure #oshexperts #RiskManagement #PPE

Safe Work Month – Week 4: Monitor Controls | As we wrap up Safe Work Month, Star Group teams are focusing on the final step in the risk management cycle: Monitoring Controls. Even the best safety measures need regular checks. Weather, wear and tear, or changes on site can affect how well they work and how safe we stay. By staying alert and acting quickly when things change, we ensure the systems we rely on continue to protect every person on site. This final step brings our month-long focus full circle. Throughout October, we’ve revisited the fundamentals of the risk management cycle: 🔹 Week 1: Identify Hazards 🔹 Week 2: Assess Risks 🔹 Week 3: Control Risks 🔹 Week 4: Monitor Controls Through Toolbox Talks, site conversations, and shared experiences, our teams have strengthened Star Group's safety culture, not just for the month, but for every day moving forward. Safety is a daily commitment, not just for October. If something doesn't feel right, speak up. Think Safe. Act Safe. Home Safe. #SafeWorkMonth #WorkplaceSafety #RiskManagement #SafetyCulture

October marks National Safe Work Month 2025, an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to safer, healthier workplaces across Australia. This year’s theme, “Safety: Every job, every day,” reminds us that safety is not just a priority, it’s a shared responsibility. Throughout the month, Safe Work Australia is spotlighting the fundamentals of risk management: - Week 1: Identifying hazards - Week 2: Assessing risks - Week 3: Implementing controls - Week 4: Reviewing effectiveness As someone who works closely with teams across construction, transport and infrastructure, I’ve seen how strong leadership and clear communication can elevate safety from a checklist to a culture. This October, I’ll be sharing practical insights and tools to support risk-based thinking and proactive engagement. Let’s use this month to start conversations, challenge assumptions, and build environments where every worker feels supported and protected. #SafeWorkMonth #SafetyLeadership #RiskManagement #WorkplaceWellbeing #SafetyCulture #NationalSafeWorkMonth #AustraliaSafety

In Week 1 of National Safe Work Month, we looked at the importance of identifying hazards. This week, we move to Step 2: Assess the risks. A risk assessment helps us understand: ✔️ How severe a risk is ✔️ Whether current control measures are effective ✔️ What action needs to be taken ✔️ How urgently action is required Risk assessments can be simple – like a discussion or a Take 5 – or more detailed, using tools such as SWMSs or professional techniques. In complex cases, seeking expert advice can make all the difference. By assessing risks, Boulevard Group ensure hazards are not only identified but understood, so the right steps can be taken to keep every workplace safe.
