How can we deliver AI for English language learning and assessment ethically? We recommend a human-centred approach, which acknowledges the vital role of educators and assessment experts in both language learning and quality assessment. Hear from our Director of Research, English, Dr Evelina Galaczi, on our six principles for ethical AI and why they matter. Take a look at how we’re approaching this in Cambridge and tell us what you think. #EthicalAI #AIinEducation #EdTech #LanguageLearning #CambridgeEnglish #FugureOfLearning
This dedication to ethical AI in education is truly inspiring 😍 . Your six principles set a strong standard for responsible innovation in language learning and assessment. We share these values and are committed to upholding integrity, inclusivity, and transparency as we develop RM Ava, our AI-driven assessment tool. Thank you for leading by example in advancing ethical AI for education!!
So AI has to be the servant rather the master:)
Instead of ethics, they have an "ethical framework". It's all a front and fake. Cambridge would love a world covered in Ai data centers, (with a lifespan of 3-5 years each) - if the shareholders are making coin. blablabla ... Colonial hangover BS. Words without any substance. Tell us point blank "Cambridge will not use AI that stole IP. Cambridge will not use AI that allows students to plagarize and not think. Cambridge will not use AI that has a huge carbon footprint. Cambridge will not use AI that is built on the exploitation of human labor. Cambridge will not use AI that does not protect the data of its students. Cambridge will not use AI to grade student work ..... tell us some specifics. And show us where Cambridge is applying said ethics.
In recent years one major challenge I have faced as a teacher is trying to come up with tasks and activities where students need to use their creativity and imagination rather than using just AI, after some time struggling with this issue I decided to invite that elephant into my classroom and nowadays I sometimes use AI for teaching, at first my students thought "she must be crazy", one even told me: "you're one of the few teachers that lets us use AI to do tasks"; well after some training I learned useful tools that I can bring into the classroom and that can be used by students too without losing their creativity and critical thinking. There is a big problem nowadays which is: teachers try to ignore that AI exists, I say: invite AI into the classroom. This topic interests me so much that I decided to do my Masters thesis about it, teachers need proper training to be able to use AI successfully and ethically. As teachers we need to stay updated with technology and be able to motivate our 21st century students but to do so we need to be able to use the tools that are available properly. It's good that Cambridge English is taking these matters into account and doing research that will help the language teaching community.
Technology can enhance learning, but it’s educators and researchers who ensure it stays ethical, inclusive, and effective. Evelina Galaczi ❤️ innovation with integrity
The trouble starts when AI is used unethically-by both students and teachers.
Literature has the potential and responsibility to promote and preserve human values while spreading awareness. The English language serves as a means to achieve this, as well as a medium of communication. Therefore, the ethical use of AI in English language teaching is essential—so, thumbs up to your call and agenda!
