Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe’s Post

👏 This afternoon the European Parliament has voted with a decisive majority for more ambition, justice and equity in EU international climate action. Cross-party cooperation around this #COP30 resolution is a good example of how constructive forces in the Parliament can work together to find common ground to push forward climate ambition in the EU, and sideline climate denialists on the far-right.  ❝❞ Sven Harmeling reacts to today's vote:

  • By calling for a strong outcome at COP30 on just transition, recognising the need for more action on fossil fuel phaseout, urging major emitters to strengthen NDCs so that they are 1.5°C aligned, and calling for the EU to scale up international climate finance including for adaptation and loss and damage - the Parliament has recognised what seeds need to be planted to ensure a bouquet of strong outcomes at COP30.

Member States who have been invited to attend COP30 must now step up their game in Belém on the basis of the Parliament’s position.
