There is a deeply concerning conversation currently being entertained at our Standing Committee for Science and Research. I read through the scope of conversations here: https://lnkd.in/gdanvcen This is deeply concerning. The scope of conversations were from primarily white male scholars, many from the USA, which is deeply politically unstable, pushing that DEI is political, when their own viewpoints are charged with comments such as "the left viewpoint". One scholar analyzes a whole tri-agency's research funding by Title. By Title. Comments are made that "rewarding equity is not rewarding excellence", that a meritocracy only looks at "objective" measures like paper count. That " women publish fewer papers" which is not excellent. This is inherently political when a Toronto Star article just came out and argued that because women now make up 50% of University students there is a problem. Women should make up 50% of University students - we are 50% of the population. What that article did not say is that percentage of female representation drops of a precipice when considering Faculty positions, especially research faculty positions, and has only recently begun to change when DEI initiatives that view CVs holistically have been implemented. I would argue that historically one of the reasons for this is that motherhood has impacted research trajectories because it has impacted numbers of publications. Knowing this and the huge demands of academic research careers, historically women have been hesitant to take on academic research roles as they do not think they will be successful. I think we cannot shy from this. It has been shown via research that there is a mommy penalty and a daddy bonus. Only the shifts to equity that truly showcase diverse excellence have allowed this to shift. DEI initiatives have been critical in changing the gender gap in positions of power, like Faculty positions, and encouraging more underrepresented groups to showcase their excellence. It is shocking to me that USA styled political theatre on DEI has infiltrated our Parliamentary committee on Science and Research. This must be stopped.
In recent weeks, a parliamentary committee has heard from academics who said diversity requirements in research funding criteria are politicizing research — and driving some qualified researchers abroad. This week, representatives of Canada's three major funding agencies pushed back. "No one gets funded because they are a member of a particular group or identify with a particular group," said Ted Hewitt of SSHRC. Others said diversity is "essential to research." 👋 Check out one of our new case studies from last year's ChangeMakers projects: Decolonising Doctoral Education: Experiences and Expectations of Global South Doctoral Students This project set out to amplify the voices of Global South doctoral researchers, whose perspectives are often missing from institutional conversations around decolonisation in the UK. Through 22 one-to-one interviews, the team explored students’ experiences with curriculum, supervision, assessment, funding, and institutional support. The findings highlight how these students are not just adapting to UK academia - they’re actively shaping it. The project offers practical insights for improving doctoral support and advancing a more inclusive, reflective research culture. Project Team: Enze Guo, Amanda McCrory, Hao Wu, and Peng Zhang 🔗 Read the full case study here: https://lnkd.in/edg3akFt

A new paper from our team at McGill University just got published with Thiago Carvalho. In this paper we found that public transit trip satisfaction is influenced by perceptions of travel time and how long older adults were willing to travel by public transit. Free access to the paper in here: https://lnkd.in/eQfN9ig4 This research is funded by National Research Council Canada / Conseil national de recherches Canada and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)

✨ #UNCITRAL was pleased to be part of the INSOL Europe Annual Congress 2025 that took place last week in Vienna! ✨👏 The Secretary of #UNCITRAL, Anna Joubin-Bret, delivered a Gabriel Moss Lecture on the topic of #insolvencylaw in the #digitalage, highlighting the developments in the area of #digitaleconomy and #insolvencyproceedings that bring about new digital actors in an insolvency proceeding, new types of assets to be considered and treated as assets of the insolvency estate, new discussions evolving around the valuation, ownership and location of digital assets and creditor identification and rights, and crucial cross-border insolvency aspects. 🌍⚖️🌐 ➡️➡️ UNCITRAL's #MLCBI, #MLEGI and most recent work on Asset Tracing and Recovery in Insolvency Proceedings: UNCITRAL Toolkit and Background Notes (#ATR), were considered essential tools providing solutions to challenges as well as timely and practical guidance for policy-makers, courts and practitioners. 📌 Important intersections between UNCITRAL's work in general and the digital transformation of trade and business were also accentuated, in particular, the #NCD convention and its interconnection to the #MLETR, UNCITRAL's work on #securedtransactions in the light of new asset types used as collateral in secured financing, the work of UNCITRAL Working Group IV on default rules on data provision contracts, and the work of UNCITRAL Working Group II on the recognition and enforcement of electronic arbitral awards. 📌 #UNCITRAL #MLCBI #MLEGI #ATR #NCD #MLETR #securedtransactions #UNCITRALWGII #UNCITRALWGIV #insoleurope #academicforum #annualcongress2025 #insolvencylaw #digitalage #digitaleconomy #insolvencyproceedings https://lnkd.in/gFR2A28M
We are delighted that our Annual Congress has started in Vienna, with the first day of the Academic Conference! 💭 How do you create genuine coherence in a research project that spans countries, disciplines, and methodologies? In The CRIES Project, our consortium brings together scholars from across Scandinavia, the Baltics, and beyond with each contributing to the study of collective singing in times of crisis. Creating cohesion across such diversity doesn’t happen by itself. It takes continuous dialogue, shared reflection, and collective planning. 👉 Through regular cross-work package meetings, we exchange ideas, align processes, and discuss everything from conceptual frameworks to technical workflows and new collaborations. These meetings have become a cornerstone of the project - not just for coordination, but for cultivating a shared intellectual space where historical inquiry, methods, and cultural perspectives meet. Last week, The CRIES Project had yet another meeting for such coordination and below you see a picture of our Sharepoint-folder, where all CRIES Work-packages can write and share preliminary ideas, view reports from meetings, share documents or ask questions. As we move forward, these conversations continue to shape a project that is truly collaborative in both spirit and structure. // Who are we?🧐// The CRIES Project is a transnational research project led by Project Leader Katrine Laigaard Baunvig and supported by HERA- Humanities in the European Research Area and CHANSE, Collaboration of Humanities and Social Sciences in Europe. You can read more about The CRIES Project here 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/dD64Zv_u

Today, our Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Rocco Palumbo, presented the International Journal of Public Sector Management at the RESER | European Association for Research on Services Conference, hosted by the Università di Roma Tor Vergata. During his talk, Prof. Palumbo emphasised the importance of services as a key driver of public value creation, thus forming an integral part of the journal’s editorial identity and positioning. He also addressed early-career researchers, encouraging them to engage with IJPSM through what he defined as the three R’s: ➡️ Be a Reviewer ➡️ Read the Issues ➡️ Report on Issues with published papers These steps, he noted, are crucial to building a stronger, more collaborative research community in public sector management. #IJPSM #RESER2025 #PublicSectorManagement #PublicValue #AcademicCommunity
