From Tregs to in vivo engineering, leaders across the field shared a clear goal — bring advanced treatments to more patients, faster. 💡 Highlights: - Access & Impact: Deploying the mobile leukapheresis center by BBG Advanced Therapies—is a major step forward in increasing accessibility. Today, only about 20% of eligible patients receive CAR-T therapy. Expanding community-based collection can help move that number significantly higher. -Broadening Reach: Efforts to make therapies available globally, with lower toxicity and community-hospital delivery models, are paving the way for equitable access. -Future Vision: Off-the-shelf, ready-to-dose therapies could eliminate the need for lymphodepleting chemo and expand treatment capacity. There is a quiet crisis in #BreastCancerCare that most people never see: even highly educated, well connected patients struggle to understand what is happening to their own bodies when hit with a diagnosis of cancer. Laura Adams is senior advisor at the National Academy of Medicine, and she is also a breast cancer survivor. She had every possible advantage, yet she still found herself fighting to access information and be treated as a partner in her own care. If it was hard for her, how are other women faring? One of the biggest challenges she experienced was the communication gap. The medical system often uses language that is technically correct, but feels impossible to act on, especially in a time of crisis. Patients may be told results, but not what they mean. They receive instructions, but are left to navigate emotions and logistics alone. She noticed that patients are often treated as people the system works on, rather than with. Yet the moments she felt strongest were the ones where she had access to understandable information, could prepare for conversations, and could participate as a decision-maker in her own treatment. Ten years ago, when Dr. Clotilde Lagier Tourenne first opened her lab at Mass General, her very first research grant came from Target ALS. A decade later, she’s once again at the forefront, this time as part of a collaborative consortium tackling one of the greatest mysteries in #ALS: sporadic ALS, which accounts for 90% of all cases. Now joined by Drs. Isaac Chiu, Brian Wainger, and Mark Albers, her team is uncovering how neurons’ own immune pathways may drive ALS progression, opening the door to entirely new therapeutic possibilities. This greatly depends on the amount of homework done PRIOR to the conference. Set definitive goals for the conference. For instance, how many potential collaborators / investors / competitors do want to meet and have meaningful interactions with? - Schedule as many meetings on the relevant conference app and stick to that timetable! During (and definetly after) each meeting / talk / improptu bathroom chat write down the person's name, affliation, and 3-4 words to indicate insight / follow-up. 🏆 VISHC RESEARCH ASSISTANT NGOC LINH AND TEAM WON 3RD PLACE & $50,000 AT THE GLOBAL HEALTH INNOVATION GRAND CHALLENGE 2025 The Global Health Innovation Grand Challenge 2025 was held at Carle Illinois College of Medicine, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, as part of the Global Health Innovation Summit. The competition gathered international teams of medical and engineering students to pitch breakthrough solutions in AI for rural health, early disease detection, aging, and low-cost diagnostics. With her teammates, Linh won 3rd place for Cervicare - a tampon-like self-collection kit that makes cervical cancer screening more comfortable, accessible, and reliable.
