Scope 4 emissions, also known as "avoided emissions," refer to the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions prevented through a company's products or services. Unlike Scopes 1, 2, and 3, which account for a company's own direct and indirect emissions, Scope 4 measures the positive impact of a product by comparing its emissions to a less-efficient alternative. Say hello to Scope 4 Emissions – the emerging frontier in carbon accounting. While it’s not officially recognized yet, it’s becoming a game-changer in how businesses approach sustainability. Here’s why Scope 4 matters: It focuses on avoided emissions – the indirect reductions that come from smarter choices like EV adoption, public transport, or green design decisions. 📖 What this PDF covers: - A quick refresher on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. - How Scope 4 breaks into layers like avoided, advised, enabled, and locked-in emissions. - Why it could be a critical piece in achieving net-zero goals. Do you think Scope 4 emissions should be a standardized part of carbon accounting? 🌿 Let’s discuss in the comments! 👉 Follow Jay Monga for insights into sustainability, innovation, and the ideas shaping our planet’s future! Why does your business need an assessment of a carbon baseline? ♻️ A carbon baseline is a comprehensive measurement of emissions produced by current operations and activities in a business. It’s like a one-year snapshot of greenhouse gases (GHGs) that your business is responsible for and could be a useful starting point for strategies to lower emissions. What does that mean? 👇 It's the first step to setting goals and building a business carbon reduction plan. https://lnkd.in/eEXRaTht To view or add a comment, sign in

For businesses working towards Net-Zero, the Science Based Targets Initiative is currently in the process of revising their flagship Corporate Net-Zero standards. Some of the changes included within the draft Standard consist of the following: · A new end-to-end framework that directs companies in establishing science-based targets, tracking and communicating progress during the cycle, and setting new targets upon the cycle’s end. · The draft Standard includes new categories with different requirements for companies depending on their size and the economic status of their location. · Improved scope 3 target-setting frameworks designed to address challenges reported by companies that had set targets through the SBTi. In short, the new Standard will be more inclusive allowing a more tiered approach to reporting dependent on business size, and assist with transparency in Scope 3 reporting.
