I’ve left Stripe and Singapore after 15 months to join a startup. My plan was to stay here for a while, and maybe even build a family. It came as a surprise to myself that I'll return to Hong Kong in just a year plus. Many people told me I wouldn’t enjoy working in a big company — the bureaucracy, the politics, the limited ability to change things that don’t work. I believed so. But Stripe, my leaders and my XFN teams proved me wrong. It turned out to be one of the best career experiences I’ve ever had because of Stripe’s vision and the people. Paul Harapin taught me how to be a leader of people and be a human. Douglas Ong and Teresa Wong warmed me with laughters and chatters when I have not many friends in Singapore. Melina Lee showed me how to be genuine and resilient to keep fighting. And the trips to India, Malaysia, Thailand, China, US, Australia.. many more moments with all of the Stripes that I will remember for life. In Singapore, I've met so many friends at VCs and people in the ecosystem. I wish we had more time to hang out — from love life talks to events with Amanda Cua, to that message from Alan Chan that pulled me from feeling like a stranger in Singapore to finding a comfort zone speaking Canto and having dim sum in SG. I wrote quarterly insights about China’s startup ecosystem when I was at Stripe. Actually before that I wrote about VC and startups in Hong Kong. Now I’m picking it up again, writing at https://lnkd.in/gmZp6Qje when I’m free. The connection will never fade through words! I know our paths will cross again. p.s. despite the dash (ChatGPT signature), this isn’t written by AI.
